#SelfieWithDaughter a Heartwarming Trend After PM Modi’s Address
PM Modi’s words caught on like wildfire – as the world took to Twitter to promote the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter
#SelfieWithDaughter became the top trending hashtag on Twitter all of yesterday – filtering into today – as Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged one and all to upload selfies with their daughters, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address to the country.
Here’s Where it All Began...
A couple of weeks ago, a little-known sarpanch of a lesser-known village – Sunil Jaglan of Bibipur village, Haryana – began a novel initiative. He launched a contest for parents to click selfies with their daughters – the best of whom would be rewarded with trophies, certificates and cash prizes by the village panchayat.
Jaglan’s heart was in the right place; he meant to do his bit to right the horribly skewed sex ratio in Haryana (871 females per 1000 males in 2014).
Little did he know, however, that on the wings of one statement from Prime Minister Modi, his initiative would become one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter – with more followers and proponents than he could ever have imagined!
On his radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ yesterday, the PM made an impassioned reference to the sarpanch’s idea and urged the nation to take it up.
What ensued was absolute magic on Twitter.
People took their PM’s words quite literally to heart and posted some beautiful photographs on the social networking site with their daughters – all with the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter.
Take a look at some of these heartwarming photos below:
Modi has proved time and time again that he’s no pre-millennial prime minister, depending only on oratory and word-of-mouth to get things going. His social media dependence has made him quite the new-age leader, finding eager followers on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram – you name it, he’s talked about it.
Here’s one trend we’re glad is catching on!
