1. Delhi: Uzbek Woman Murdered by Friend

The body of a woman, found lying stuffed in a briefcase and abandoned near the house of a former Haryana minister in Karnal was identified as that of Shahnaz, an Uzbek National.

The charred body was recovered from the briefcase on September 25.

Shahnaz is said to have been murdered by her friend Naaz, another Uzbek National over money matters. For more read here.

2. Haryana: Man Mortgages Wife for Rs 30,000, Kills Lender

The murder of a man from Bihar revealed a bizarre story - the man had been murdered by another to release the latter’s wife. She was ‘mortgaged’ to the deceased and had been ‘lent’ to the accused.

3. NRI Crashes SUV at Attari Indo-Pak Border, Arrested

An NRI was arrested for crashing his SUV into the security gates at the Attari Joint Check Post on Monday and reached the zero lane at the International Border.

The 42-year-old NRI from Canada, originally hails from Jalandhar. Police said “few medicines consumed for mind relaxation were recovered from his possession.”

4. SC Sentences a Dead Man to Jail, Withdraws Judgment Later

The Supreme Court on Monday found that it had sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment, finding him guilty of rape nearly three years after he had died.

The judgment against the dead man has been withdrawn after the apex court realised its mistake. The convict (who was deaf and dumb) was accused of raping a minor girl in 2006 and was allegedly killed by his brother three years ago.

5. Nazeer Used Smartphones to Communicate from Jail

Shahanas, aide of Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Thadiyantavide Nazeer who is in the custody of the Kochi city police revealed on Monday that Nazeer communicated with his associates using WhatsApp from the Bengaluru Jail.

Five smartphones with fake SIM cards and active internet connection were recovered from Shahanas.

6. West Bengal: Rare Turtles Seized, Man Arrested

A wildlife smuggler was arrested with 305 freshwater turtles, classified vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature from Jharkhand on Monday.

He was to deliver live Indian soft shell turtles, which have been accorded protected status. They fall under Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, to another wildlife smuggler in Malda, West Bengal.

7. Lured by Film Offer, Mumbai Minor Gang-Raped Several Times

A 17-year-old struggling actor was raped by several men in Mumbai in the past few months after she was lured on the pretext of a good offer in films. Two women and a man who had made video clips of the girl while she was being gang raped, in order to to blackmail her.

8. Mumbai: Drunk Model Abuses, Assaults Hapless Cops

A drunk 35-year-old model abused and assaulted cops in Mumbai who later took her to a police station.

She attacked several officers, and the police did not retaliate. The model has been identified as Devdutta Banerjee.

9. Desi Crooks Overtake Nigerians, Top in Fraud Cases in Hyderabad

Hyderabad cyber crime police analysed more than 150 cases of debit card fraud and found that maximum calls had been made from Jharkhand.

They called up people pretending to be bank managers or UDAI officials and extracted debit card details including One Time Passwords before looting victims’ money by making online purchases and recharges.
