1. Kin Kill Man & Dump Body in Nullah, Held

Five days after a man’s body bundled into a gunny bag was found floating in a drain in Chembur, police arrested his sister Reshma Ovhad (29) alias Sonu and brother-in-law Sumit Patankar (32) on Sunday and booked them for murder and destruction of evidence.

The deceased, Devendra Akhade (32), was hooked to drugs and the bottle and used to harass his family, the police said.

Last Tuesday, the police got information about a body in a drain. Officials from RCF police station said the corpse was highly decomposed and the limbs were trussed. The decomposing body was sent for a post-mortem examination, said inspector Mahesh Desai.

2. Woman Killed in Accidental Firing at Wedding in UP, 1 Held

A 30-year-old woman was killed in accidental firing during a marriage ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place in Sisoli village under Bhorakala police station limits on, they said.

Poonam Kashyap was working when a youth, Shubham, accidently opened fire at her from a country-made pistol, Circle Officer (CO) Girja Shankar Tripathi told PTI.

The accused has been arrested and Kashyap's body sent for post-mortem.

3. 2 Held for Vadodara Gang Rape; Hang Them, Demand Victim's Kin

Ahmedabad crime branch on Sunday arrested two persons for the gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl in Vadodara, police said.

The mother and sister of the victim demanded that the two men, identified as Kishan Mathasuriya (28) and Jaso Solanki (21), be hanged to death.

The two were held from Tarsali locality of Vadodara where they lived, Ahmedabad Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ajay Tomar said.

4. Plumber Kills Self After Strangling His Two Kids

A 35-year-old man killed himself after killing his two children in Chembur on Sunday. The police said Dinesh Yadav, who worked as a plumber, hanged himself after killing his three-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son.

RCF police registered a murder case and sent the bodies for postmortem. The police suspect that the children were strangled. Initial investigations revealed that Yadav was frustrated as his wife frequently ran away from home, said the police.

They will register a case of murder against Yadav once they establish the sequence of events. The police added that the incident took place between 11 pm and 9 am on Sunday, and the door was locked from inside.

5. UP: Minor's Uncle Among Two Held in Rape Case

Police booked two people in connection with the rape of a minor girl, officials said on Sunday. One of the accused is the uncle of the victim, they said.

Kotwali police station SHO Ramesh Chandra Sharma on Sunday said on Saturday, a 13-year-old girl was going to her school when she was given lift by her uncle.

Subsequently, her uncle asked her to shift to the motorcycle of his friend, saying he would drop her to the school.

6. Man Sentenced to One-Year Rigorous Imprisonment for Flashing, Groping

A 42-year-old unemployed man who lived illegally in a hut on the premises of a housing society was convicted to one year rigorous imprisonment for groping a resident of that building in May, and flashing her and her mother-in-law when they cried for help.

Santosh Ambavane was convicted based on the testimony of the two women and the survivor’s husband who the women complained to after the incident. The court refuted the defence that there are no independent witness to corroborate their testimonies.

The court said, “As per the principle... one eyewitness is equivalent to ten hearsay witnesses. Hence, the witness from public is not available would not be a strong reason to disbelieve the testimony of witnesses.”

7. UP: Man Held for Raping Minor Daughter

A man in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping his minor daughter under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the accused on Saturday night in a village under Kotwali Dehat police station, Circle Officer Triyambak Nath Dubey said.

The girl's mother filed a police complaint and the man was arrested in the morning, he said.

8. Kolkata Police Cracks Down on Harassment, Unruly Bikers; 74 Held

Kolkata Police stepped up its patrolling services after a woman was raped and murdered in Hyderabad on November 27. The Winner Team and Anti-Rowdy Squad of the Detective Department jointly conducted a drive in Kolkata on Friday night, with special focus on Netaji Nagar Police Station area, and arrested 74 people on allegations of harassment, rash driving, and unruly behaviour.

“As many as 74 people were arrested. They were handed over to the local police station for prosecution. Nearly 51 motorcycles were also seized during the drive,” said an officer. Such crackdown will continue in days to come.

In 2018, Kolkata Police had formed The Winners — an all-woman patrolling squad — with an aim to protect women on roads and instil a sense of confidence among women. The patrolling vehicle only have women officers.

9. Husband Killed Jalandhar Woman in Canada Before Shooting Self

More than two weeks after a 21-year-old woman, hailing from Punjab’s Jalandhar district, was shot dead in Canada’s Surrey city, it has come to light that she was killed by the man she had married less than a month ago. The father of the girl revealed this after meeting Canadian police officials.

The Canadian police closed the investigation in the case on November 27 after recovering the body of Prabhleen Kaur Matharoo’s 18-year-old husband, who was also prime suspect in her murder case.

Prabhleen was killed on November 21 and Canadian police say her husband Peter committed suicide by shooting himself the same day.
