1. Police Arrest 3 for Making Dalit Student Drink Toilet Cleaner

Three senior students of a nursing college in Kalaburgi, Karanataka were arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged ragging of a first year Dalit girl student from Kerala. The seniors allegedly forced the victim to consume toilet cleaner at the hostel of Al Qamal College of Nursing on 9 May.

Nineteen-year-old Aswathi is now battling for life at Kozhikode Medical College hospital, where she was admitted on 2 June. Based on her statement, police in Kozhikode had registered an FIR on 22 June against five of her seniors.

2. Grandmother and Parents Kill 17-Year-Old Girl

In a suspected case of ‘honour killing’, a 17-year-old girl was killed by her parents and grandmother in Adilabad district of Telangana on Friday.

The family members feared that she would elope with a youth from another caste, police said. Lakshman Singh strangled his daughter to death with the help of his wife Chandrakala and mother Panchavati at about 3:30 am, inspector K Nagendra Chary said.

The three accused have been detained and probe is on.

3. Labourer in Muzaffarnagar Beaten to Death for Demanding Wages

A labourer was allegedly beaten to death by his employer and his family members when he demanded that he must be paid his wages, according to PTI report.

Bholal (60) was beaten to death by Ravinder and his family members when he asked him to pay for his work, Circle Officer SP Sharma said.

He said a case was registered against three people in connection with the murder. One person has been arrested, while two, including Ravinder, are still at large.

4. Three Held in Delhi for Murdering Minor Girl

Police arrested three people – including two juveniles – for allegedly murdering a minor girl in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area.

The girl went missing from her home in Shanti Mohalla of Gandhi Nagar on 18 May and a complaint was lodged in this connection by her brother Vijender Kumar at Krishna Nagar police station.

Avinash (19), who was in contact with the girl, was arrested from Old Delhi railway station on Friday, said Rishi Pal, DCP(east).

During interrogation, he disclosed that he, along with his cousin who is a juvenile, murdered the girl and put her body in a plastic bag before disposing it of in the Najafgarh drain.

The clothes and slippers of the girl were recovered from the house of Avinash’s girlfriend in Tughlaqabad, police said.

5. Body of Vendor Found in Delhi with Throat Slit, Face Smashed

The body of a 24-year-old man was found with the throat slit and face smashed at his rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar area on Friday, according to a PTI report.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Kumar, a hosiery items vendor in Sarojini Nagar market, police said.

The incident came to light around 5.45 am when Kumar’s cousin-cum-roommate Sonu came home and saw him lying in a pool of blood on the terrace outside his room. He raised an alarm and the neighbour rushed towards him, a senior official said.

From preliminary investigation, it emerged that unidentified assailants had gagged him with a cloth and then slit his throat with a sharp weapon, he said, adding they also smashed his face with a heavy object or by beating repeatedly by fists.

6. Boy Beats His Friend to Death With Cricket Bat

A 19-year-old boy allegedly killed his friend by hitting him with a bat following a heated argument while playing cricket at a park in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area.

The incident took place around 5:30 pm on Friday when four people, Shivam, Akash and two of them named Amit, were playing cricket at Buddha Jayanti Park.

Shivam tried to pull a delivery and the ball hit Akash, a police official said. Akash (19) was infuriated over it and entered into a heated argument with Shivam (17). He suddenly snatched the bat from Shivam and hit him hard after which Shivam collapsed, the official said. The three got nervous and rushed him to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where Shivam was declared brought dead.

The police were informed, following which a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was registered and Akash was arrested.

7. Woman and Lover Tied Together Naked in Public for Two Days

A woman and her alleged lover were paraded naked and then tied together for two days and a night in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, as jeering crowds clicked their pictures and posted them on the social media.

According to the Times of India report, the tribal duo were tortured and humiliated by a mob led by the woman’s husband, Bhanwarlal Meena, and his family members at Kasotia village on Monday.

Despite the episode taking place in broad daylight, all eyewitnesses, including teachers and health workers, did not report the matter to the authorities.

On 17 June, the woman had allegedly left her husband to live with her partner.

8. Woman in Coimbatore Bludgeons Former Servant to Death

A 40-year-old woman allegedly murdered a man at a bus stand in Coimbatore on Friday in full public view. She claimed that she was avenging her husband’s murder, police said.

Sugandhamani repeatedly hit 50-year-old Ravikumar, former servant in her house, with a big stone, killing him on the spot at the bus stand in Periyanaickenpalayam in broad daylight.

She then boarded a bus, reached the local police station and confessed the crime, police said.

Police recovered the body and said the woman had been taken into custody and further investigations were on.

9. Woman Techie Found Murdered at Railway Station in Chennai

Swathi S, a 24-year-old Infosys employee was found dead with injuries to her face and neck around 6:30 am on a platform in Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai, police said.

The incident is believed to have taken place when Swathi, a resident of Choolaimedu near the station, was waiting to board a train to reach her office as per her routine. It caused a flutter in the neighbourhood and the station, which usually gets busy around 7 am.

The body has been retrieved and sent for postmortem, police said, adding various angles were being probed to locate the assailant and to ascertain the motive behind the killing.
