1. Police Considering Moving Court For Lie Detector Test on Shashi Tharoor

New Delhi: The Delhi Police is considering moving court for permission to conduct a lie detector test on Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case, as reported by NDTV. Currently, meetings are being held to take a decision on when to approach the court, the sources said.

Tharoor’s office said this evening that it has “always said that Shashi Tharoor will cooperate with the probe,” adding that it has received “no official request from the police so far for a polygraph test.”

2. Second Tihar Jail Escapee Nabbed in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: Two days after escaping from the high-security Tihar jail, the second undertrial was on Tuesday arrested from the Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh by Delhi Police, as reported by DNA.

Jawed, who had escaped from Tihar prisons along with another prisoner, Faizan, on Saturday was arrested by a joint team of Delhi Police and jail authorities.

3. Woman Prisoner Tries to Hang Herself in Tihar Jail

New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman, lodged in jail number 6 of Tihar prison, allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging herself. Another inmate reported the matter to the security guards and the woman was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, as reported by CNN-IBN.

She later returned to the jail after being discharged and was sent for counselling, officials said. The woman, identified as Parminder, is reportedly serving a life sentence in a murder case. She was reported to be depressed for the past few days as no one from her family had come to meet her for a very long time.

4. Jagendra Singh – Paan Shop to Reporter to His Death: 7 Criminal Cases, a ‘Wanted’ Poster

Shahjahanpur, UP: Sometime in August 2014, a mysterious poster came up all over Shahjahanpur, a town in central UP. Against a deep purple background, the poster prominently featured Jagendra Singh, a freelance journalist who allegedly killed himself on June 1 this year after accusing an Uttar Pradesh minister of harassment, as reported by The Indian Express.

“WANTED,” the poster said, with a message saying Singh had a non-bailable arrest warrant against him issued by a Shahjahanpur court for extorting money from traders and that he was on the run. It ended with a warning – “Yeh thugi/jaal sazi/avaidh vasooli karne ka mahir hain (he is a master extortionist)” –  and a message asking people to keep away from him. A probe set up by the police to find out who had put up these posters soon fizzled out.

5. Three Accused Arrested for Murder

Allahabad: Sabir Khan murder case has been worked out with the arrest of three accused. Khan was killed at Tulsipur Rasulpur and his body dumped at Arail. Naini police arrested the three accused identified as Mohammad Jamal of GTB Nagar, Kallu of Rasoolpur and Mohammad Akhtar of Kareli near Gol Park, as reported by The Times of India.

6. One Held for Duping Student of Rs 10 Lakh in Mumbai

Mumbai: The city crime branch has arrested one of the three members of a syndicate which, under pretext of availing admissions in the medical colleges, used to dupe aspiring candidates to the tunes of lakhs, as reported by The Times of India.

The city crime branch on Tuesday arrested Bhaskar Chaudhary (33) and are looking for two more accused, including a woman, who are believed to have cheated several candidates seeking admissions in the medical colleges in the state.

7. Four Held in Mumbai After ATS Seizes 151 Kg of Mephedrone

Mumabi: In perhaps the biggest haul of the synthetic stimulant drug Mephedrone in the metropolis, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday claims to have seized 151.5 kgs of the contraband worth Rs 30 crore from a hotel in suburban Oshiwara and arrested four persons, as reported by The Quint.

8. A 20-year-old Youth Found Murdered in Punjab

Moga, Punjab: A 20-year-old youth was found murdered in Smadh Bahai village, as reported by the Business Standard. The deceased has been identified as Gurjant Singh, who used to run a furniture shop in Bathinda district, and his body was found yesterday near his house, police said.

He left home yesterday after receiving a call on his mobile but did not return, following which his parents lodged a complaint with police. Gurjant’s body was found by his parents near their house when they were going to the gurdwara.

9. Friend Rapes Girl in Faridabad

Faridabad: An 18-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a person she had be-friended through telephonic conversations in Ballabhgarh, as reported by the Business Standard.

The victim got in contact with the accused – who identified himself as Munna over the phone – on January 2, following which the latter approached the girl for friendship, police said.
