1. Young Married Couple Shot Dead in Suspected Honour Killing Case in Punjab

In a suspected case of honour killing, a young married couple were shot dead on Sunday allegedly by the woman's relatives at Naushera Dhalla village here, police said.

According to Station House Officer Police Station Sarai Amant Khan, Kiranjit Singh, the relatives of the woman intercepted the couple in the middle of the road when they were on a motorcycle.

The woman's relatives then allegedly shot them dead and thereafter they fled from the spot, he said.

Police said Amanpreet Kaur, 23, married Amandeep Singh, 24, of the same village four months ago against the wishes of the woman's family.

Five members of the woman's family have been booked for murder and other charges, police said, adding that further investigations were underway.

2. Two Arrested for Shooting at Police Team

Police personnel at a checking point in Delhi's Defence Colony area were shot at by three men and two of them were arrested afer a brief chase, police said on Sunday.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, a policeman received information that occupants of a black car had weapons, an official said.

He immediately informed a team of the highway patrolling staff and they started checking vehicles near the BRT petrol pump, police said, adding that the car was spotted and signalled to stop.

3. Former Inmate of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Gangraped in Moving Car

A woman, who had been an inmate of the infamous Muzaffarpur shelter home, was allegedly raped by four men in a moving vehicle in Bettiah town of West Champaran district, the police said on Sunday.

The Muzaffarpur shelter home had hit the headlines in 2018 after a social audit report highlighted that over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the government-aided shelter home, run by an NGO.

Bettiah town police station SHO Shashi Bhushan Thakur said that the woman was admitted to a government medical college on Saturday evening and a medical examination was conducted by a team of doctors on Sunday, he said.

It will be confirmed whether she was raped only after getting the medical examination report, he said.

The woman, in her police complaint lodged with the Bettah town police station on Saturday, alleged that four men forcibly took her inside their vehicle while she was passing through the area where she lives on Friday evening, and raped her in a moving vehicle, police said.

4. Notorious Gourav Jharera Gang Member Held in Vasant Vihar

Delhi Police have arrested a 30-year-old Gourav Jharera gang member wanted in connection with several cases of robbery, extortion, assault and attempt to murder from Vasant Vihar area, a senior police officer said on Sunday.

Ajay Danial alias Anna was arrested from Vasant Vihar and one pistol and two live cartridges were seized from him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya said.

A native of Chennai, he was residing at Madrasi Colony in Moti Bagh in Delhi's South Campus. Danial has a history of criminal involvement.

He was sought by police after a road rage case in Vasant Vihar in April this year. He and his associates — Harsh, Prakash, Ashok — had thrashed a person in Vasant village and had been absconding since.

5. Snatcher Held After Encounter with Police on Delhi-Meerut Highway

A man, wanted in several cases of mobile phone and gold necklace snatching, was arrested near Duhai village cut on the Delhi–Meerut road here after an encounter with police, a senior official said on Sunday.

The exchange of fire took place between two bike-borne men and a team of Murad Nagar Police at around 12.30 am, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police said.

One of the suspects, later identified as Riyazuddin alias Riyazu, suffered a bullet injury and was caught while the other one fled the scene and hid in a sugarcane field, they said.

Riyazuddin was a resident of Meerut district and carried a reward of Rs 15,000 on his arrest, police said.

6. Six-Year-Old Kidnapped, Raped; Undergoes Two Surgeries

A six-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home, brutally raped and later found abandoned in the bushes around half a kilometer away from her home in a Ludhiana village under jurisdiction of Jamalpur police station.

Police said that the accused allegedly kidnapped the child from her home when she was sleeping with her parents at around 1 am in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. According to the police, he then took her to the bushes in an isolated area nearby and raped her.

7. Four Men Booked for Kidnapping and Beating 13-Year-Old Boy in Wazirabad

Four men were booked for allegedly beating and kidnapping a 13-year-old boy as they suspected him of stealing a mobile phone at the Dhani market in Wazirabad on Friday. The police said that the boy’s father was also beaten up by the men.

According to the police, the boy is a Class 8 student and a resident of Wazirabad. His father is an auto-rickshaw driver and his mother runs a shop of cosmetic products near their residence.

The incident took place on Thursday around 12.30pm when the boy was playing at a neighbouring house.

In the police complaint, his father alleged that he saw his neighbours beating the boy when he returned home after work. On enquiring, they alleged that the boy had stolen a mobile phone from their house.

8. Tanzanian Woman Held with 2 kg Heroin in Kapurthala

Kapurthala police arrested a Tanzanian woman and seized 2 kg heroin from her on Sunday. The accused — Rehma — was living in New Delhi.

Kapurthala senior superintendent of police Satinder Singh said she was visiting India on a business visa and was living with her relatives. She had earlier supplied drugs five times in other cities in Punjab and was caught supplying drugs in Kapurthala district. The accused is still being interrogated.

9. Mirzapur Block Pramukh Declared ‘Land Mafia’ for ‘Grabbing’ 51 Bighas of Gram Sabha

Mirzapur district administration has decided to declare the Haliya block pramukh a land mafia after the revenue records showed that he had allegedly transferred the ownership of 51- bigha government land to himself and his family members.

An inquiry was ordered by Mirzapur District Magistrate Anurag Patel on the basis of a complaint against Block Pramukh Suresh Dubey (50).

On the basis of the inquiry report, a case has been lodged against Dubey, seven of his family members and three lekhpals on various charges, including fraud, at Haliya police station.
