1. BJP MP Anant Singh in Jail for Kidnapping and Extortion

Bihar’s Ruling Janata Dal (U) legislator Anant Singh was arrested on Wednesday in a 2014 case of kidnapping and extortion of a builder in Bihita of rural Patna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vikash Vaibhav said.

Late last night, a court remanded Singh to judicial custody and he was taken to Beur jail in Patna.

2. PIL Against ‘Forcing’ Muslim Girl Students to Drink Concoction During Ramzan

Advocate Bhaskar Mathuram filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Madras High Court against allegedly forcing Muslim girl students of a minority community to drink a herbal concoction at a private school in Tiruchirapalli district during month of Ramzan.

He alleged that the management of the school at Palakarai had forced 150 students to drink the concoction, supplied by the corporation, when religious fast was being observed.

3. Parents Sold 11-day-old Girl, Rescued

An 11-day-old baby girl, who was allegedly sold by her parents because they could not pay the hospital bills after her birth, was rescued yesterday.

The parents were facing financial problems and were even unable to pay the delivery charges of the hospital where she was born. Another reason was that it was their third girl child.

4. Complaint Against DDCA for Serving Liquor on dry day, two Years ago

A complaint, purportedly by BJP MP Kirti Azad, has demanded action against Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials for allegedly serving alcohol on a dry day, in violation of the law.

Reportedly, the complain was filed against teh sports organisation on June 23 for serving alcohol on October 2 2013, violating Delhi Excise Act and Prevention of the Insult of Nationals Honours Act (1971).

5. Man Wants to Spend Life in Prison after Killing a Sleeping Person

A man suspected to be mentally unsound killed a person sleeping at a bus stand in Mettupalayam in Coimbatore by smashing his head with a stone, police said.

The accused, T Muthuraj, from Nilakottai in Dindigul district killed the 57-year-old man around 4.00 AM while he was sleeping and claimed that he fulfilled his desire to spend the rest of his life behind bars, police said.

6. Court Rejects Bail to SI Arrested for Gunning Down Suspect

A local court yesterday rejected the bail application of a Sub Inspector, accused of gunning down an accused at a police station on October 14 last year, in Ramanathapuram of Tamil Nadu.

District Sessions Judge Pon Prakash said the case was an important one and SI Kalidass could not seek bail within a few days after his arrest.

Besides as he was a police officer, there was a possibility of threat to the witnesses and destruction of evidence, he said.

7. Burglars Held With Stolen Goods in Jamshedpur

Police of Jamshedpur’s East Singhbhum district have arrested seven burglars and recovered stolen goods from them.

After two burglaries, among other stolen items, police recovered three TV sets, three laptop, 18 mobile phones, three cameras, two video cameras, three DVD players, one desktop computer, one tab and gold ornaments from them.

8. Two Bullet Riddled Bodies Found

Police recovered two bullet riddled bodies yesterday from near Kuti roundabout under Ramgarh police station of Palamau district of Jharkhand.

Aadhaar card identified one of them as Uday Singh of Ramkanda in Garwah district while the other one was yet to be identified.

9. Police Constable and Wife Killed by Robbers

A 50-year-old police constable and his wife were killed in their home at Palpara Bhatjangla in Nadia district of West Bengal early last morning by robbers, police said.

At least three robbers broke into the two storied house locked their teenaged son in his room from outside.

Rama Prasad Chandra resisted their attempt when they stabbed him in the stomach, police said.
