Punjab Police Shoot SAD Leader Mistaking him to be Gangster Jaggu

Punjab police killed a SAD activist in an exchange of fire after they mistook him to be gangster Jaggu.

A Shiromani Akali Dal activist was killed in after an exchange of fire with Punjab police. 38-year-old Mukhjit Singh was shot dead on Tuesday night on the outskirts of the city at Verka locality near Mudhal village.

The Police Version

Police say he defied a signal to stop and fired at the police team which was in civilian clothes. The car was signalled to stop as police had “specific information” that gangster Jaggu - wanted in cases of murder and dacoity - was travelling in it. Singh opened fire with his revolver on the police team, police claimed.

The police retaliated and he was killed on the spot, police said. A senior police officer said they mistook Singh for gangster Jaggu.

Kin Demand Immediate Action

Singh’s family is demanding immediate arrest of all police men involved in the case under section of 302 IPC apart. They also want the personnel to be dismissed from the service immediately.

SAD activists took to the streets of Amritsar protesting against the police involved in the incident.
