Priyanka Gandhi hit out at the BJP after a poster that bore the picture of rape-accused MLA Kuldeep Sengar as well as that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were published in a full-page advertisement in the local edition of a vernacular daily in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh on Independence Day.
The same poster was seen in several places in Unnao as well. Sengar, who is the MLA from the area, has been accused in the rape of a minor – a case which grabbed national headlines last year as the survivor tried committing suicide in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence when the police refused to file her complaint.
Priyanka took to Twitter to register her protest against the poster stating that Kuldeep Sengar “still resided in the hearts of BJP workers”.
More recently, Sengar was also accused of orchestrating a horrific car crash last month in which the survivor and her lawyer were left fighting for their lives. Sengar was, thereafter, expelled from the party.
Defending the poster, the chairman of the Nagar Panchayat who paid for the advertisement said:
“He is MLA of our area. That is why his photo is there. Till the time he is our MLA his photo can be put.”
