After being detained by the Delhi Police, missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed’s mother has been released. She had been detained, along with 300 other JNU students near India Gate as they demanded investigation into the disappearance of Ahmed. He has been missing for 23 days.
Upon her release she said,
We only went there at India Gate to sit but the police dragged us and manhandled us while removing us. What am I asking for? I only want my son back. If police can’t do this, please give this case to CBI.Fatima Naees, Najeeb Ahmed’s Mother
Later, when it became evident that the detained students and Najeeb's mother had been taken to the Mayapuri police station several kilometres away, Kejriwal reached there.
When he was told that Fatima Nafees had been released, he tweeted he would stay put in the police station till she reached home.
He then announced he was leaving the police station as Najeeb's mother safely reached her home.
Allegations of Manhandling by Protestors, Police Denies
Delhi Police had detained Fatima Nafees – mother of the missing JNU student – and many others who were protesting the disappearance of Najeeb who went missing on 15 October. One of the protesters, Shahid Raza, alleged that police treated Fatima shoddily.
The police detained us on way to India Gate. They manhandled Najeeb’s mother.Shahid Raza, Protestor
However, Joint Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak denied the charge. He said no one was "manhandled".
Many gathered in small groups at India Gate to protest, they were persuaded against it but no heed was paid. A few protesters were removed and were taken to the police station. They have been sent back to their destinations including Najeeb’s mother.Dependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police
All the detainees were taken to the Mandir Marg police station initially, police said
Shocking visuals appeared all over social media showing Najeeb’s mother being dragged by Delhi Police personnel from the protest site.
President to Seek Report
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that President Pranab Mukherjee has promised to seek a report from the Home Ministry on the JNU student, Najeeb, who has been missing for over three weeks.
The President gave the assurance when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader called on him, Kejriwal tweeted.
The Chief Minister said he sought the President's intervention regarding Najeeb Ahmed, who went missing from the Jawaharlal Nehru University on 15 October after a tiff with alleged members of the BJP-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The ABVP has denied any involvement in his disappearance.

‘Don't Convert Delhi Into Police State’
Meanwhile, JNU students were not allowed to protest at the India Gate memorial in the heart of the capital. Police blocked all roads leading to the World War I monument.
The Delhi CM took on the Delhi Police. Speaking to the media he urged the Delhi police to not convert the city into a police state, and instead put its resources into finding Najeeb.
Kejriwal took to Twitter to protest against the police action.
