After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her maiden budget on Friday, 5 July, the former Union Minister P Chidambaram declared that a future Congress minister will bring an iPad to present the budget.

His remarks come after Sitharaman departed from the tradition of using the budget briefcase and replaced it with a bahi khata (ledger notebook) before presenting the Union Budget.

Sitharaman’s entry with the red-coloured bahi khata created a lot of buzz on social media platform even before the budget presentation began.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also questioned the meagre focus on job creation in the Budget after it was presented. He added that the Union Budget 2019 serves no purpose for the aam aadmi (common people).

“This government’s budget does nothing to either create jobs or give money in people’s hands.”
