An 80-year-old woman from Bhopal was reportedly beaten up by cops on Friday after linking her to the ongoing protests that have hit the state, alleging that she housed stone-pelters.

A group of four-five policemen barged into her house and beat her with sticks, breaking her bones and injuring her husband as well, reported India Today.

A photo of the policemen beating up the woman has gone viral on social media, drawing a lot of ire.

Speaking to Times of India, the woman, Kamlabai Mewade said:

I was sitting in my house along with my husband, sons and grandsons when police barged in. They accused me of hiding stone-pelters inside my house. I denied and said they were free to look around, but they started beating me and my husband with sticks.

Mewade said that her house was located on a farm behind Phanda petrol pump, where a few protesters had taken refuge after being chased by police. Although the protesters had escaped from behind the farms, the policemen entered Mewade’s house and beat her and her family up.

They started abusing and assaulting us despite our pleadings that we were not rioters.

Distraught by police’s treatment, Mewade went to meet CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was on a fast some 40 kms away. However, she was denied entry by police.

The couple has now reportedly gone on a fast to demand justice and action against the policemen, who unfairly beat them up.
