Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen spoke to Sky News and said that the militant organisation will not allow United States to extend their 31 August deadline for ending their mission in Afghanistan.
"If the US or UK were to seek additional time to continue evacuations — the answer is no. Or there would be consequences," Shaheen said, AFP reported.
He added that staying beyond the agreed deadline would be "extending occupation".
The sources also reportedly said that no new government will be formed until the last US soldier leaves Afghanistan, AFP reported.
In July, Biden ordered the US military to end its mission in Afghanistan by the end of August. Less than a month later, Taliban seized control of Afghanistan on 15 August, with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fleeing the war-torn country.
The US has been scrambling to evacuate Americans and its Afghan partners from the country since the Taliban's astonishingly swift capture of the Afghan capital.
Meanwhile, visuals from the airport in Kabul display the acute panic of desperate Afghan people attempting to escape the Taliban rule. At least eight people have been reported dead amid the chaos.
'Extension Under Discussion': Joe Biden
On Sunday, 22 August, United States President Joe Biden had said that extending the deployment of troops for the evacuation mission in Afghanistan beyond the 31 August deadline has been under discussion.
Biden gave updated remarks about the ongoing evacuation while addressing reporters at the White House on Sunday afternoon, news agency Xinhua reported.
"Our hope is we will not have to extend," said Biden when asked about the deadline.
Speaking of the 31 August deadline, UK officials and armed forces minister James Heappey spoke to British media on Monday, 23 August, and said that they would push for an extension on Tuesday, 24 August, at the online leaders meet of the G7-summit.
