CLAIM

A video of a raid being conducted is being shared on social media as that of a raid on a BJP leader’s house. The video is 40 seconds long and shows a large amount of cash in different currency notes being discovered in a room of what looks like a house.

Another person has also shared the video, claiming that it is a video of a raid on Rajeev Chandrashekhar’s house in Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave.

The video was also shared on Facebook as a raid by CBI on a Delhi BJP leader’s house.

Back in August 2017, the same video was also shared with a different narrative — that of a raid on Karnataka minister DK Shivakumar’s house.

TRUE OR FALSE?

On searching for news reports about IT raids on houses that had recovered crores in cash, we came across an article about an IT raid in Delhi that had led to the recovery of Rs 13.56 crores. Comparing the photos in the tweet by ANI which was included in the news report, it was evident that they are from the same raid.

As the tweet states, quoting the Delhi Police Crime Branch, the raid took place on 10 December 2016 at a law firm called T&T in GK 1, Delhi.

On searching for more news reports about the incident, we came across a report by The Times of India, which gave details about the raid. The raid was carried out at the office of lawyer Rohit Tandon, the third such raid on him.

The report also carried the same video as the one being shared online.

The Quint also found the same video being shared as it is, in December 2016.

This tweet had video credit given to a Ravindra Yadav. On clicking on his name, we were redirected to his Twitter account, from where he had shared the same video.

Ravindra Yadav is the Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police.

Therefore, while the video is being shared with many narratives now, it is actually from 2016 and shows a raid on a law firm, not any politician’s house.
