CLAIM
The Quint received a message claiming that intern doctor, Dr Paribaha Mukherjee, of NRS Medical College in Kolkata, who was beaten up by the relatives of a deceased patient for alleged medical negligence has passed away.

When we tried looking for the news, we found out that the same message was been spread on Twitter which multiple users claiming that the intern doctor has passed away.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The message claiming that the intern doctor has passed away is entirely false. The Quint got in touch with the doctors at the NRS hospital to find out the truth who confirmed that the message is false.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT?
The Quint spoke to Dr Nirupam Sarkar, ex-house surgeon, NRS Medical College, who branded the news as “fake” and added that Mukherjee’s condition is now stable. He has however been kept under observation at the Indian Institute of Neuroscience in Kolkata.
For more clarity and confirmation, we reached out to another intern doctor at the hospital, Dr Upoma Saha, who too dismissed the message being circulated as fake and reiterated what Sarkar told us.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN KOLKATA?
Medicare services across West Bengal have been disrupted as junior doctors in government and private hospitals are on a strike demanding fool-proof security following an assault on them by a mob after the death of a patient.
The incident of assault took place at NRS medical college and hospital on Monday night, leaving an intern seriously injured and the protests, which initiated there, escalated to medical institutions across districts.
Emergency wards, outdoor facilities, pathological units of most of the state-run medical college hospitals and a number of private medical facilities in the state remained closed.
