The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP’s) three-day Hindu Dharma Sansad, which concluded at Udupi on Sunday, has asked the Centre to declare cow as the national animal and protect it, reported The Times of India.

According to the report, the other resolutions of the Sansad were conducting DNA tests before exporting meat, withdrawal of dossier condemning cow vigilantes, preservation of Gomala land and strict action against cow theft and slaughter.

While voicing concern over “increasing incidents” of cow slaughter, where “real gau rakshaks were being targeted and eliminated by people involved in illegal slaughter of cows,” Surendra Kumar Jain, International Joint Secretary of VHP, said that the VHP has resolved to urge the Centre to make cow the national animal.

In the past three years, 200 such incidents were being reported across the country. Our investigation has revealed that only in 14-15 cases, our members were directly involved and rest were fabricated against us. Cow protection is moral and legal right of Hindus. Gau hatya (cow slaughter) is hurting the sentiments of Hindus across country. It should stop by any chance. Law should deal with an iron hand against those persons involved in cow killings.
Surendra Kumar Jain, International Joint Secretary of VHP

Slamming political parties in Karnataka and Kerala for arranging beef parties and “overtly supporting cow slaughter”, he said that because of these people, the Hindu community is disturbed.

Stressing that encroachment of gomala land has led to cows not getting enough fodder, he said that the lands should be cleared as it is not for political leaders to build commercial complexes.

DNA Test Before Beef Export in the Interest of the Nation: Jain
