Indian badminton player and Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu was on Thursday appointed as the Deputy Collector by the Andhra Pradesh government.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu handed over the appointment letter to Sindhu at the State Secretariat Hyderabad, in the presence of her parents.

Naidu hoped that she would score more victories and bring laurels to the country and the state.

On receiving her appointment letter, the shuttler said she was happy to receive the same from the government.

While Sindhu has been asked to join duty within the next 30 days, she maintained that badminton would remain her first priority.

She later took to Twitter to thank Naidu for supporting her and added that she will work hard to bring more laurels.

In May, the state legislature had passed a Bill amending the State Public Services Act to appoint Sindhu as a Group-I officer in the government.

As any recruitment in public services has to be only through the State Public Service Commission, selection committee or employment exchange, the government had to amend the Andhra Pradesh (Regulation of Appointments to Public Services and Rationalisation of Staff Pattern and Pay Structure) Act, 1994.

Andhra Pradesh government offered her a cash reward of Rs 3 crore, a residential plot in Amaravati and Group-I officer's job, for winning the silver medal in badminton during the Olympics last year.

Having been born and brought up in Hyderabad, the Telangana government also presented a cash reward of Rs 5 crore and a residential plot.

Although Telangana had also offered her a job, Sindhu accepted the offer of Andhra Pradesh, the native state of her parents.
