Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 3 December, addressed public gatherings – labelled ‘Vikas rallies’ – in poll-bound Gujarat. He lashed out at the Congress saying the party wanted to divide society on the basis of caste, creed, and religion.

Modi had recently addressed four campaign meetings for the BJP in the state. Patidar leader Hardik Patel also addressed a massive rally in Surat the same day.

Work Not to Lose, But Win: Hardik Patel

Addressing a rally in Surat on Sunday, 3 December, Patidar leader Hardik Patel took a dig at the BJP, saying “they will show blue film of a young man, but not talk of their progress.”

He alleged that he was offered Rs 5 crore by an industrialist to not address the rally.

The Patidar leader appealed to people to “wake up and talk to their relatives about not voting for the BJP,” and asked them to take an oath to oust the saffron party from the state.

I, Hardik Patel, swear by the martyrdom of the 14 Patidars (allegedly killed by the police during reservation quota stir) and vow to cast my vote on 9 and 14 December before 11 am to oust the BJP who are torturing six crore people.

Patel spoke about the plight of farmers in Gujarat, saying villagers are “innocent” and are “fooled” by the rich.

We are not thinking about our future. We go out and ask other countries to invest by setting up companies in India... We are only asking for justice. We are fighting for jobs, for the unemployed and eduction for the poor. This government is so rigid... instead of talking about the future and development of our people, they talk like dictators.
