COVID-19 ‘Hotspots’ in 15 UP Districts to Be Sealed Till 15 April

These include Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Shamli and Saharanpur.

Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday, 8 April, said that all COVID-19 hotspots in 15 districts of the state will be sealed till 15 April to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“All coronavirus hotspots in 15 districts will be completely sealed till 15 April morning. Only home delivery will be allowed. These are places where a number of COVID-19 cases have been found.”

Replying to a question on whether the ongoing lockdown will be extended till 30 April, Shishir said no decision was taken on the issue as yet.

The decision was taken on the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after he held a review meeting.

ANI reported Director General of Police HC Awasthi as saying, "The hotspots in these districts will be completely sealed. Only medical vehicles will be allowed and no one will be allowed to perform any other activity."

“Fire services have been deployed for an extensive sanitisation drive in the areas of these (15) districts. Civil Supply dept & medical supply dept will deliver essential services at your doorstep. People should not come outside for anything,”

UP's chief secretary, Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, while speaking to the reporters earlier also confirmed that 'in the 15 districts, only the affected areas will be sealed'.

Districts Where Hotspots Will be Sealed

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said, "100% lockdown will be enforced only in the hotspots of the 15 districts, other areas in the districts will follow the guidelines of previous lockdown. There is no need to panic."

These hotspots will be identified by evening, Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Awanish Awasthi said.

The 15 districts include Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Shamli, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Firozabad, Maharajganj, Sitapur, Saharanpur and Basti.

In a letter, dated 8 April, issued from the office of UP's chief secretary, Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, it has been suggested that 'owing to increase in COVID-19 load in certain districts, affected areas in these areas be sealed completely'. The letter also urges to review curfew passes issued in respective districts so far.

These include Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Shamli and Saharanpur.

Number of Hotspots in 15 Districts Across UP

ANI quoted Additional Chief Secretary Home, Awanish K Awasthi as saying, "There are 22 hotspots in Agra, 13 in Ghaziabad, 12 in Gautam Budh Nagar, 12 in Kanpur, 4 in Varanasi, 3 in Shamli, 7 in Meerut, 1 in Bareilly, 3 in Bulandshahr, 3 in Basti, 3 in Firozabad, 4 in Saharanpur, 4 in Maharajganj,1 in Sitapur & 8 big and 4 small in Lucknow".

The total number of cases in India has risen to 5,194, including 4,643 active cases as of Wednesday. The death toll stands at 149, while 401 have recovered.

Meanwhile, CEO, NOIDA Authority, Ritu Maheshwari, made an appeal 'not to panic or engage in panic buying.'

Clusters Identified in Noida & Greater Noida

According to the UP government, a total of 12 clusters have been identified in Noida and Greater Noida. Here is a tentative list of hotspots which will be sealed:

1) In Noida, two such clusters are in Sector 37, while one such cluster is in Sector 137.

2) Two villages have been identified as hotspots in Dadri area, making up the second hotspot.

3) Sector Omicron in Greater Noida along with Ghodi Bachheda village have been identified as the third hotspot.

4) Sector Alpha 1 and Sector Zeta have been identified as the forth hotspot. Both the locations are within 3 Km of each other.

5) Patwari village in Greater Noida along with Sector 2 of Greater Noida West will be part of the fifth hotspot. Two COVID-19 patients were identified in each of these areas.

6) Sixth hotspot has been identified in Gaur City, Greater Noida west, where four from a family have fallen ill.

7) Sector 27 and Sector 37 have been combined to make the seventh hotspot. Patients have been identified in and around both these areas.

8) Sector 50, Sector 44 and Sector 100 have been combined to make the eighth hotspot.

9) Noida's Sector 5 has been identified as the ninth hotspot. Patients have been identified in certain slums around Sector 5.

10) Noida's Sector 62 and surrounding areas have been identified as the tenth such hotspot.

11) Sector 74 and Sector 78 have been clubbed to make the eleventh hotspot.

12) Noida's Sector 150 and surrounding areas have been identified as twelfth hotspot.

These include Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Shamli and Saharanpur.

Meanwhile, news of certain areas being sealed led to a rush at shops and markets in the districts where hotspots have been identified.

Hotspots Identified in State Capital of Lucknow

These include Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Shamli and Saharanpur.

In an official communication posted on Twitter by the district magistrate of Lucknow, a total of 12 hotspots have been identified in the state capital.

In Lucknow, there are 8 large and 4 small such hotspots as per the official letter.

Here's the list of eight large hotspots in Lucknow:

1) Areas around Masjid Alijan under the Cantt police station

2) Areas around Mohammadi Masjid under the Wazirganj police station

3) Areas around Phoolbagh Masjid under the Kaiserbagh police station

4) Areas around Nazarbagh Masjid under the Kaiserbagh police station

5) Areas around Mohammadia Masjid under the Sadatganj police station

6) Areas around Peer Baksh Masjid under the Talkatora police station

7) Areas around Khajoor Wali Masjid in Triveni Nagar under the Hasanganj police station

8) Areas around Rajauli Masjid under the Gudamba police station

Other four small hotspots in Lucknow include:

1) Vijay Khand and some areas in Gomti Nagar

2) A clinic in Indira Nagar and some areas around 'Munshi ka puliya'

3) Some areas in Khurramnagar

4) Areas around IIM Power House and certain locations under the Madiyaon police station
