An elderly man and a 36-year-old woman were killed after the porch of a building inside the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur fell on them on Thursday, 12 December evening, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5.15 pm at the dermatology department of the hospital, they said.

According to police, the victims- Devnath Bagde (66), who was undergoing treatment at the hospital and Vanita Waghmare, who had come to meet a patient- got buried under the debris after the porch collapse, police said.

Talking to PTI, medical superintendent of GMCH, Dr Avinash Gawande, said, "Bagde had been undergoing treatment in the hospital since November 4, while Waghmare was a relative of one of the patients."

According to police, Bagde was going out for a walk, while Waghmare had come to give a tiffin to her relative when the incident took place.

Investigation into the case is on.
