- Taxi and autorickshaw drivers called off their indefinite strike on Monday in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai after government’s assurance of their problems being looked into seriously.
- They demanded regulation of cab aggregators like Ola and Uber by the state government. The decision to hold back the strike was taken by two unions, Jai Bhagwan Taxi Rickshaw Sangathana and Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Sanghatana on Sunday.
- Their next course of action will be decided after meeting with Transport Minister Diwakar Raote on 1 September. They also do not want to cause inconvenience to lakhs of commuters.
- However, Mumbai Autorickshawmen’s Union has remained firm to go on a day’s-off-strike on 31 August. They want the cab aggregators to ply outside the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and come under the ambit of RTO rules and regulations.
