Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Delhi, Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday, 25 February, said strict action should be taken against any party member provoking violence, referring to the clashes over Citizenship Amendment Act in northeast Delhi on Monday.

“No matter who the person is, whether he is Kapil Mishra or anyone else, belonging to any party, if he has given any provoking speech then strict action should be taken against him.”

The former cricketer requested everyone to maintain peace and urged the Delhi Police to take strict actions against the culprits.

Mishra had issued an ultimatum to police to clear out the roads blocked by anti-CAA protesters in Jafarabad and Bhajanpura areas in three days, warning that he will come back on the streets if no action is taken.

Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa on Tuesday said about Kapil Mishra's speech that it was under investigation.

“It’s under investigation, our top priority was to control the situation which we’ve done. We will investigate all FIRs that have been registered and if a main conspirator is found action will be taken,” Randhawa said, according to ANI.

Gambhir also met Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara Amit Sharma, ACP Anuj Jain and head constable Yashpal, who were seriously injured on Monday during violence in northeast Delhi, PTI reported.

"If peaceful people can treat men in uniform like this, how will they treat ordinary people. What kind of protest is this?" he said asking anti-CAA protesters to talk to the government which was ready to hear their grievances, according to PTI.

The death toll from the clashes over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi has increased to 10, said Delhi Police on Tuesday. A head constable is among the 10 killed in the violence that erupted on Monday and has continued since.
