With the ongoing farmers’ protest completing one year on 26 November, and the Winter Session of the Parliament beginning on 29 November, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced:
“…on and from 29 November until the end of this Parliament session, 500 selected farmer volunteers will move every day to Parliament in tractor trollies peacefully and with full discipline, to assert their rights to protest in the national capital…”
This, the SKM pointed out, is “in order to increase the pressure manifold on this obstinate, insensitive, anti-people, and pro-corporate BJP central government, to force it to concede the demands for which farmers across the country have launched a historic struggle for one year”.
The farmers have been sitting in protest at the Delhi border since November 2020, demanding the withdrawal of the three contentious agricultural laws introduced by the central government last year.
Farmers To Observe 1 Year Anniversary of Protests on 26 November
The SKM, in a statement released on Tuesday, 9 November, called upon all farmers to observe one year of the protest against the contentious farm laws passed by the BJP government “by assembling in large numbers at borders and to hold state-level protests in distant states” on 26 November.
"On 26 November there will be huge mobilisations from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan at all the Delhi borders. Large meetings will be held there. All farm unions in the SKM will mobilise farmers in strength for this occasion. Huge public meetings will be held there that day. Homage will be paid to more than 650 martyrs in this struggle so far."
The protests will involve the participation of farmers, workers, employees, agricultural labourers, women, youth, and students in all state capitals of India, the SKM said.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait had, in a statement last week, warned that the farmers would magnify their protests if the government does not repeal the three new farms laws by 26 November.
"The central government has time till 26 November, after that from 27 November, farmers will reach the border at the protest sites around Delhi by tractors from villages and strengthen the protest site with solid fortifications," Tikait had tweeted on 1 November.
