A 20-year-old man, who was arrested for raping a three-year-old, has confessed to raping and killing at least nine girls aged between three and seven in Delhi, and three other cities over the past two years, a Reuters report quoted the police as saying on Wednesday, 21 November.
On Monday, 19 November, the jobless man was arrested in Jhansi on charges of raping and killing a three-year-old girl on Sunday, 11 November in a Gurugram slum.
“He broke the legs of the victims before attempting rape. Then he would murder them.”Assistant sub-inspector of the Gurugram police, Subhash Boken, told Reuters.
According to the report, the man was on Tuesday, 20 November, remanded in police custody for eight days.
Police have linked three cases of dead children to his statement and are investigating the rest, Boken said, adding that four of these cases are in Delhi, three in Gurugram, and one each in Jhansi and Gwalior.
According to the report, the man, who used to work occasionally as a daily labourer, said that he mostly targeted community kitchens such as those distributing free food to the needy.
He told the police that he would lure young girls by offering them sweets or money, Boken said.
