A debt-ridden farmer reportedly killed himself on Tuesday, 21 May, inside the premises of the Collector’s Office in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. According to Kalu Ram Rawat, the SP of Hanumangarh, the 48-year-old farmer, who has been identified as Surya Ram, was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday.
A note about a bank loan was recovered from the deceased’s person, Rawat said, adding that a probe would be carried out into his death. His relatives have registered an FIR in the matter.
Ram was a resident of a village in the area.
One of his relatives also told the police that Ram had taken a loan from a bank and that the bank employees were approaching him to recover the money from him.
Collector of Hanumangarh Zakir Hussain said he was not aware when the matter had occurred at night and that he had only come to know of the death after receiving a call from the Police Control Room in the morning.
Hussain also said he had heard after the incident that Ram had some loan in his name, adding that he had checked the Collector's Office documents and seen that there was no application pending in the deceased's name there.
