Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday, 6 December, said that the army personnel were "forced to fire" on civilians in Nagaland in order to defend themselves. Shah observed that 14 civilians had died in the state due to army firing.

Both the Houses of the Parliament have been adjourned for the day.

The Upper House had also been adjourned in the morning, amid protests by some Opposition parties over Sunday's Nagaland killings.

Later, it resumed at noon for a few brief moments but was adjourned again amid heavy sloganeering by the opposition members.

'Won't Apologise': Leader of Opposition on Suspension of Opposition MPs

"We met the Chairman and asked him to revoke the suspension of the 12 MPs of the House so that they too could be a part of the discussions and the House function properly. We will discuss and debate on all issues and cooperate with each other," Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"But that talk didn't go through, a piece of advice was put forth that either all of them apologise or at least the LoP say that what happened was not right and they're seeking an apology. We said it's not right & it won't happen as they were suspended illegally," Kharge added.
