Two Lynched in West Bengal On Suspicion of Cattle Theft

Two men were lynched in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district on Thursday, 21 November, for allegedly transporting two stolen cows.

The cows were carried in a vehicle without number plate and 13 people have been arrested in connection with the case, reported PTI.

Prakash Das and Rabiul Islam – the two men were stopped around 20 villagers after they noticed the animals.

"They pulled them out and beat them with sticks and stones before torching the vehicle. The mob dispersed when police reached the spot,” an investigating officer told the The Indian Express.

The men were rushed to the hospital, where they succumbed to injuries.

The accused have been held on charges of murder, but more charges are likely to the added, an officer told the newspaper.

The West Bengal Assembly had recently passed the West Bengal (Prevention of Lynching) Bill, 2019, which is waiting for the governor's assent.
