23-year-old fisherman Jineesh Jerone, who became a hero for rescuing scores of people during the Kerala floods, died on Saturday, 29 September, after being run over by a lorry on Friday.

The accident reportedly took place near Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, with his friends claiming that "he was left unattended for nearly half-an-hour" before he could be taken to the hospital.

“There was a delay in taking him to the hospital. After the accident, he was left unattended for nearly half-an-hour as there was no one in the vicinity. He bled profusely.”
John Mathew, fellow member of Coastal Warriors group, as quoted by The Indian Express

Jerone was one of the first people to reach Chengannur in Alappuzha district, one of the worst-hit areas during the Kerala floods, as part of the 'Coastal Warriors' group that he belonged to, reported The News Minute (TNM).

Posters, flex boards and banners were put up close to Jineesh's house in Poonthura, praising his heroism. His mortal remains were carried in a procession with scores of people accompanying the coffin to the church on Sunday, TNM further reported.
