Ghaziabad Deaths: Brother-In-Law Arrested for Abetting Suicide

The police is suspecting that the couple ended their lives as the family was undergoing a financial crisis.

The police on Wednesday, 4 December, arrested the brother-in-law of businessman Gulshan Vasudeva, who had jumped to death along with his wife and another woman after killing his teenage children in Indirapuram on the outskirts of Delhi, PTI reported.

"Rakesh Verma, the brother in law of Vasudeva, has been arrested for abetting suicide, while his mother Phoola Verma also accused in the case is on the run," Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Sudhir Kumar Singh told PTI.

After allegedly killing their two children, the husband-wife duo, along with another woman jumped from the eighth floor of Krishna Sapphire residential society in Indirapuram in Ghaziabad in the wee hours on Tuesday, ANI reported, quoting the police.

The other woman has been identified as Sanjana, Gulshan’s working partner.

Family Undergoing Financial Crisis

Gulshan’s son Hritik and daughter Hritika were killed by poisonous substances, which were injected into them on Monday night, City Superintendent of Police Manish Mishra said, reported news agency PTI.

Sudhir Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad told ANI that the boy was around 13-14 years, while the girl’s age ranged between 11-12 years. “Marks of knife were found on boy’s neck,” he added.

The couple died while the other woman was taken to a hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries. Their pet rabbit was also found dead in their flat on the eighth floor of the building in Krishna society, a residential complex, the police said, according to PTI.

The police is suspecting that the couple ended their life as the family was undergoing a financial crisis.

“After an investigation, it has been discovered that the two women were the wives of the deceased man. When we opened the flat, their two kids were found dead. A suicide note was also found in their flat. The possible reason behind the suicide is a financial crisis.”

However, he added that police is yet to ascertain the claim that both the women were the wives of the deceased man, ANI reported.

Narrating his account, Ajaz Karim Khan, a guard at the apartment complex, said, “The incident occurred at around 5 am-5:15 am. I heard some noise and went out to check and saw that three people were lying on the ground. I immediately called my supervisor and called the police.”

Matter of Rs 1.5 to 2 Cr: Police

Mishra said that Gulshan, who was the owner of a jeans company, had invested money in some project but was not receiving sufficient returns on it.

“Gulshan, along with his relative Rakesh Burma and other family members, had invested in a project but was not getting the required return. So, he was worried about the financial debt that he was undergoing.”

He further informed that this debt involves an amount ranging from Rs 1.5 crores to 2 crores. As per the locals, the couple had two children, one girl and a boy and had moved into the society in October.
