1. CSMT Bridge Collapse: Chargesheet Filed Against Arrested Director Of Audit Firm

Police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against Neeraj Desai, arrested director of the firm which carried out the structural audit of the collapsed foot overbridge (FOB) near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

The bridge collapsed on March 14, killing seven persons, including staffers of Cama Hospital, and injuring 33 others. Desai, director of Prof D D Desai’s Structural Engineering and Analyst Private Ltd, was the first arrest in the case. The 709-page chargesheet was filed by Azad Maidan Police

Actor-singer Karan Oberoi, arrested on charges of rape and extortion on Sunday, was on Thursday remanded in 14-day judicial custody. The Oshiwara police had sought additional custody of the 40-year-old accused for further investigation, but the Andheri metropolitan court did not find merit in the arguments.

Oberoi was arrested after a fashion designer, in her complaint to the Oshiwara police, alleged the ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi’ fame actor raped her on the pretext of marriage.

The Bombay high court (HC) on Friday roped in police beat marshals to ensure that pavements on Jai Bhavani Mata Road in Andheri (West), extending from Ramesh Nagar to Andheri station, remain free of encroachments.

The bench directed the commissioner of police, Mumbai, to instruct all beat marshals attached to DN Nagar police station to keep an eye on the pavements in the area and seek immediate police assistance if they notice any encroachers.

4. Illegal Construction Case: BMC Rejects HC Order To Disqualify NCP Corporator

An NCP corporator accused of illegal construction activities has got relief as the civic general body on Thursday rejected a proposal to disqualify her.

The proposal regarding NCP corporator Manisha Rahate from Vikhroli was tabled after the Bombay High Court ordered her disqualification. Leader of the house Vishakha Raut spoke out against the disqualification and asked Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar not to clear the proposal. Raut argued that the illegal construction of which Rahate is accused of is old and that she was not a corporator at the time.

5. Dentist Hurt In Byculla Museum Lift Crash Dies

A 63-year-old dentist who sustained serious injuries in a lift collapse at Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Byculla last month, died on Thursday at Masina Hospital. The Grant Road resident’s last rites will be performed on Saturday.

Dr. Arnavaz Havewalla, who practised at Gamadia Polyclinic in Tardeo, visited the museum along with her daughter around 2 p.m. on April 28. They entered a hydraulic lift on the first floor and it started falling towards the ground floor rapidly. It then got stuck between the first and ground floors for about five to six minutes. Due to the impact of the collapse, the mother and the daughter suffered back injuries. Dr. Havewalla suffered severe multiple injuries, including a pelvic fracture.
