The Bombay High Court is expected to give 'appropriate orders' on Tuesday, 15 January, to end the eight-day long strike of the BEST buses in the city as the BEST workers' union and the Maharashtra government failed to reach an agreement before the court on Monday, 14 January. Meanwhile, the MNS started an agitation to pressurise the authorities to end the strike early.

A 40-year-old housewife caught her molester at Asalpha Metro station on Saturday, 12 January, and also immediately dialled 100 to inform the police. The accused, identified as Pravin Ramchandra Bandre, 39, was arrested by the Andheri police.

Even as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) services remained paralysed on Monday, 14 January, Mumbai’s civic administration was unwilling to give in to the main demand of the striking unions.

The BEST Kamgaar Samyukta Kriti Samiti, a collective outfit representing the striking employees, has been demanding refixation of pay scale of 13,000-odd employees recruited below the regular grade since 2007, with retrospective effect.

6. More Than 13,000 Killed in Road Mishaps in Maha in 2018

More than 13,000 people were killed in 35,957 road accidents in 2018, up from the 12,511 deaths in 36,056 mishaps in 2017, according to the data from the Maharashtra highway traffic police.

According to the Maharashtra highway police officers, who collect data on all road accidents and analyse them, human error —such as drink driving, lane-cutting, speaking over the phone while driving, etc — emerged as the main cause behind majority of the mishaps.

7. Railway Staff Spots Crack In Mumbai Track, Prevents Major Accident

A potentially major accident involving a local train was prevented early morning on Monday, 14 January, in Mumbai. A railway keyman noticed a crack on the train tracks and immediately alerted the train driver who stopped the train, according to news agency ANI.

The local train was coming from Panvel area and was heading towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or CSMT in south Mumbai.
