A newly elected Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh, Vivek Tankha, took a SpiceJet flight on Wednesday, but had some complaints about the service of the airline.

The complaint was not that he wasn’t treated well but rather, that he was treated too well. He called the VIP treatment meted out to him “extremely embarrassing.”

Tankha, a Rajya Sabha member from Congress, wrote a letter to the airline objecting to the VIP treatment he received on the flight from Jabalpur to Delhi.

Tankha expressed surprise at this treatment and said, “we are living in a democratic country where every person is equally respected and important.”

In the past, India’s “VIP culture” has been critiqued and has been called unfair, sparking protests on social media and elsewhere.

There have also been various instances where late “VIPs” have delayed commercial flights and kept the crew waiting.
