13 Maoists Killed in Encounter With Maha Police in Gadchiroli

The operation was undertaken by the elite C-60 commandos.

13 Maoists were killed in a police encounter in Paithi forests in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Friday, 21 May.

The operation was undertaken by elite C-60 commandos, who had cracked down upon the Maoists in a camp near a village, Times of India reported.

As per a report by PTI, the Maoists had gathered in the forest for a meeting when the commandos launched a search operation in the forest.

“Based on specific inputs, the police party, comprising C-60 commandos, launched a search operation in the forest,” said Sandip Patil, DIG of the Naxal range, adding that the Maoists saw the commandos approaching and opened fire.

Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, Ankit Goyal spoke to PTI and said that the encounter lasted for nearly an hour, after which the remaining Maoists escaped into the dense forest.

He added that a search was on in the nearby areas.

Besides the bodies of the slain, some weapons and substantial literature and other daily essentials were recovered from the site.
