Question papers for multiple subjects of Madhyamik, the Class 10 examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), have been reportedly leaked.

On Tuesday, 19 February, a leaked question paper was circulated on social media for the sixth consecutive day, news agency PTI reported.

Images of the physical science question paper have been circulating on WhatsApp. Other than that, question papers of Bengali, English, History, Geography and Mathematics were leaked over social media in the past five days, according to PTI.

The Central Investigation Department has taken over investigation and five suspects have been arrested, including 3 Madhyamik examinees, the agency said in a tweet.

“The accused had opened whatsapp group and papers were sent outside through whatsapp for solving and dissemination of answers after start of exam (sic),” it said.

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee had on Monday, 18 February, sought a report on the ongoing investigation by the WBBSE over the allegations of question paper leak.

A report by The Times of India suggests that on Tuesday, the question paper of the first exam was doing the rounds on social media at 11.58 am, two minutes before the exam commenced at noon.

Chatterjee had earlier said a question paper is only considered to have leaked when it is circulated before the commencement of the examination, not after.

WBBSE President Kalyanmoy Ganguly, however, said that they had received a part of the question paper at 1.43 pm, following which the board filed a complaint with the cyber cell of Bidhannagar police station. CID has since taken over the case.

The CPI(M) student wing – SFI and youth wing DYFI – has criticised WBBSE for the reported leak, while the Chhatra Parishad, the student wing state Congress, protested before the board's office on Monday and handed over a memorandum to Ganguly, PTI reported.
