1. Attorney Caught Accepting Bribe

Assistant public prosecutor K Prasanna Lakshmi, serving at the XIV Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Rajendranagar, was caught red-handed by the ACB within the court premises while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. She allegedly demanded the money for submitting a building permission document in the court as evidence.

According to the ACB, a 60-year-old woman and her granddaughter S Kavya Reddy complained that they were abused by their neighbour for constructing a compound wall last year. The quarrel ended with case being filed by the senior citizen and Ms Kavya Reddy at Rajendranagar police station (Cr No. 633/2018).

2. 400 Percent Fine on All Illegal Commercial Units Likely

To discourage unauthorised commercial constructions, the GHMC has decided to impose 400 percent penalty on not only the structure (in the form of property tax) but also ask the electricity department and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to do the same.

If the property owner does not make the required changes in keeping with the rules in one financial year, the GHMC will cancel the trade licence and impose a ban on the establishment for a specific period. During the ban, the property will not be allowed to carry out any business.

3. NRIs Bid for Plots, Disappear

As many as 11 top bidders who participated in the Uppal Bhagat e-auction for plots below 500 square yards, have not paid the first instalment, which was 25 percent of the total cost. These plot owners have paid the earnest money deposit (EMD) which was fixed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), but did not turn up for the allotment of the plot even two days after the due date.

4. Cops Bust Betting Ring, Arrest Three

The police, in two separate cases, arrested three persons for organising betting on IPL matches in the city. In the first case, the South Zone task force on Thursday arrested two person and seized Rs 4.7 lakh.

5. CM Orders Free Re-Verification of Inter Answer Sheets

In a major decision to assuage the agitated Intermediate students and their parents, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the officers concerned to take up re-verification and re-counting of answer papers and marks of the students who failed in the examinations, free of cost.

However, for those students who passed the examination but preferred re-verification and re-counting, it should be done in accordance with the prevailing norms and regulations. Rao held a review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan here on Wednesday on the incidents that happened following the declaration of Intermediate results.
