The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist who was wanted in the 2017 CRPF camp attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Lethpora that left five security personnel dead, ANI reported on Tuesday, 2 April.

As per a Hindustan Times report, the accused and a key conspirator of the 2017 attack, Nisar Ahmed Tantray, had fled to UAE on 1 February, but was deported to India on 31 March after the intervention of the government.

An NIA official cited by HT was brought from Dubai to Delhi on a special aircraft and was arrested by the agency at the airport.

Notably, Nisar Tantray is the brother of Noor Mohammed Tantray, who was a divisional commander for JeM in South Kashmir and was said to have been at the forefront for recruitment of youth and reviving the militant outfit. Noor Mohammed was killed in an encounter right before the Lethpora attack in December 2017.

Earlier in February, the NIA had arrested another key accused Fayaz Ahmad Magray, who provided logistical support and shelter to the terrorists, and conducted reconnaissance of the CRPF camp at Lethpora before the terrorist attack on the intervening night of 30-31 December 2017.

During the 2017 attack, five CRPF troopers were killed and three were grievously injured. Three JeM terrorists were also killed in the attack.
