Electronic Device Missing from INS Vikrant, Police Form SIT

The Kerala police has began an investigation into a breach of security at the Cochin shipyard in Kochi, where India's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is being built, The New Indian Express reported.

An "electronic digital device" was found missing from the aircraft carrier, according to the report.

The Kerala police chief told the daily that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter. Additional Police Commissioner KP Phillip said that a complaint was lodged by the shipyard authorities on Monday, 16 September.

According to the report, the initial investigations show that the device was in the vessel till 28 August.

INS Vikrant, a 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier, will be handed over to the Navy by 2021 and will be commissioned into service by 2023.
