1. Stalker Stabs Woman More Than 38 Times, Kills Her in Indore

A 25-year-old woman was killed by a stalker who stabbed her more than 38 times in Indore’s affluent Sanghi Colony on Thursday night, said the police.

Kamlesh Sahu, the accused, was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly attacking Supriya Jain. Police rushed Jain to the nearby CHL hospital, where she was declared dead on Friday.

MIG police station inspector T Kazi said Sahu and Jain were schoolmates in Sagar district. Jain proposed to Supriya around six years back, but she refused.

2. Environmentalist RK Pachauri to Be Tried in Sexual Assault Case, Says Delhi Court

A Delhi court on 14 September, ordered framing of charges against Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, former chief of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), for allegedly outraging the modesty of a female colleague in February 2015.

Metropolitan magistrate Charu Gupta discharged him of four other sections – sections 354 (B) (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354 (D) (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) – stating that prima facie these cases had not been made out against him.

Police had Pachauri under seven sections out of which the court ordered framing of charges under sections 354 (outraging modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

3. On Video, Delhi Cop’s Son Thrashes Woman; Arrested After Rajnath Singh Intervenes

The son of a Delhi policeman has been arrested after he was seen slapping and kicking a woman and knocking her to the ground in a disturbing video. The arrest was reported soon after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that he had ordered action.

On the video that was widely shared, the man, identified as Rohit Tomar, the son of a sub-inspector Ashok Singh Tomar, is seen telling the woman, “Don’t take his name again,” as he hits her. The blows keep coming, on the woman’s stomach, back and head, and he also pulls her hair.

“I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard,” Rajnath Singh tweeted on Friday, 14 September.

4. West Bengal: DRI Arrests Two for ‘Smuggling Cigarettes’ Worth Rs 1.86 Crore

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested two Mumbai residents from Haldia dock for allegedly smuggling Indonesian-origin cigarettes from Dubai, a DRI official said.

The total value of the consignment seized is close to Rs 2 crore with duty evasion of Rs 1.37 crore, the official said.

“One imported container shipped from Dubai and unloaded at Haldia dock had declared to be containing tissue papers. However, the container had foreign cigarettes smuggled from Dubai. DRI officials found 1,00,000 sticks of Mond Strawberry Cigarettes (Filter Cigarettes Superslims) and 14,40,000 sticks of Gudang Garam International cigarettes. It was amounting to outright smuggling and mis-declaration.

5. Acquitted of Rape, Man Moves Court, Seeks Rs 20 Lakh Compensation

Acquitted of rape in the 2016 gang-rape case, Wasim Malik, who remained in jail for 16 months prior to his acquittal, on Friday sought a Rs 20-lakh compensation for being falsely implicated by the police. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued notice to the Chandigarh Administration and the police on the petition filed by Malik through advocate Hari Chand Arora. The case will be heard on 31 October.

“Wasim Malik has alleged that he was arrested by the respondent police officials on 17.12.2016 in a rape case registered in Industrial Area Police Station on 13.12.2016 against unknown persons, without any reason, and just in order to improve its sagging image before citizens of Chandigarh and to claim that it had immediately solved the rape case registered against some unknown persons,” said Arora.

6. Kerala Nun Rape Case: Church Outs Photo of Survivor Who Accused Bishop of Rape

The Kerala police on Friday, 14 September, registered a case against Jalandhar-based Missionaries of Jesus after it issued a media release with a photograph of the nun who had accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who belongs to the the congregation, of rape.

Kottayam SP Hari Sankar said police registered the case on a complaint from the nun’s brother under Section 228 (A) of the IPC, which deals with disclosure of a rape victim’s identity. Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine said legal action should be taken against those who circulated the photo. “Exemplary action should be taken against those who tried to insult the victim. The commission will also look into this matter,” she said.

7. Horrific Murder in Telangana, Man Hacked to Death in Front of Pregnant Wife

A couple walks out of a hospital, casually chatting with each other, while another woman walks close to them. As the couple reach the gate, a man can be seen coming from behind them, walking briskly. As the couple exit the hospital gate, the man attacks the young husband with the machete in his hand. The young man falls down on the first blow, the attacker hits him on the head once more, before running away as the two women recover from their initial shock and try to push him away.

The young man, Pranay Perumalla, did not survive the gruesome attack. CCTV footage from the Jyothi hospital in Nalgonda district captured the brutal murder of Pranay, who came with his pregnant wife Amrutha for her check-up.

8. Man Throws Toddler Daughter from Terrace After Wife Gives Birth to Second Girl

A man allegedly threw his 18-month-old daughter from the terrace of his home in an Uttar Pradesh village after his wife gave birth to another girl, police said Friday, 14 September.

The toddler, Kavya, was seriously injured after the incident in Pardhauli village, under CB Ganj police station area here, Thursday and has been admitted to hospital.

Her father Arvind Gangwar, who was drunk at the time, has been arrested, officials said.

Villagers said that there was tension in the house since Arvind's wife gave birth to their second daughter five days ago.

9. Lady Doctor Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances

Police on Friday, 14 September, recovered the body of a lady doctor from her rented house in Bhubaneswar.

The deceased has been identified as Manaswini Barik, a native of Melchhamunda of Bargarh district. She was working in the ICU unit of a private hospital in the city, police said.

Manaswini had rented the house at Shree Vihar in Patia area under Chandrasekharpur police limits.

The victim's bother said he called her up on the phone but they remained unanswered. He then contacted her colleagues at the hospital who went to her house. However, they found the room locked from inside and informed the police.
