1. Head Constable Accused of Raping Minor Help on the Run

A Delhi Police head constable is on the run after allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in his house in outer Delhi’s Mundka. The incident was reported by the minor on Tuesday after which a manhunt was launched for the accused cop.

According to the police, the head constable, identified as Amar Singh, was posted as a security officer at a district court in the city. Singh lives with his family in Mundka.

The minor, in her complaint to the police, said she was recently hired as domestic help by Singh’s family.

2. Man Accused of Rape, Murder in UK to Be Extradited: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea by a 35-year-old Delhi resident, paving the way for his extradition to the United Kingdom where he is accused of a murder and a series of rapes. The charges pertain to his time in the UK before he returned to India in 2009 and settled down in Delhi.

Rejecting the plea filed by the accused, Aman Vyas, challenging a trial court’s December 2018 order recommending his extradition, Justice Mukta Gupta also dismissed his prayer to quash the extradition order issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on February 4 this year.

3. Japanese Woman Held at CSMIA With US Dollars Worth Rs 1.24 Crore

A Japanese woman was intercepted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai after she was found carrying undeclared foreign currency worth Rs 1.24 crore on Wednesday night. The accused, Marin Kataigi, was flying to Bangkok, said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

“We found cash worth USD 1.2 lakh from the woman’s hand baggage. When we began inquiry, she was unable to produce valid documents. We then asked for her checked-in bag to be brought from the baggage make-up area (BMA). After thorough checking, we found USD 60,000 in the luggage. Collectively, we seized cash worth Rs 1.24 crore,” said a CISF officer. The agencies are now investigating the source of the foreign currency.

4. Chennai Police Identify 90 ‘Route Rowdies’

In a crackdown on college students unleashing violence in MTC buses and on roads, the Chennai police have identified 90 ‘route rowdies’, those elected ‘leaders’ of those travelling to college on a particular bus or train route and those normally resposible for unruly incidents. The trigger for the police action is Tuesday’s incident where a group of machete-wielding students of Pachaiyappa’s College chased and attacked another group from the same institution on Poonamallee High Road in Arumbakkam.

On Thursday, at a meeting convened in Egmore by joint commissioner of police (east) R Sudhakar with principals of four colleges decided that students found guilty of unleashing violence will be asked to do mandatory community service, working with police personnel to streamline traffic on busy stretches, with a letter from the heads of their institutions.

5. Captured on CCTV Cam, 2 Women Snatchers Held

Three days after a woman lodged an e-FIR about her phone getting snatched in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla, a 22-year-old woman, Chandni, and her 18-year-old associate, Monu, have been arrested for the crime.

The duo was found carrying out snatchings in north and central Delhi.

On Monday, the complainant stated that she was walking back home while talking on her mobile phone when two people came on a two-wheeler from behind. The person riding pillion then snatched her phone. The victim later realised that that snatching was done by a woman and told this to the cops.

6. Delhi Shoe Shop at the Centre of Inter-State ‘Pay and Play Cricket’ Racket

A wholesale footwear shop in Karol Bagh finds itself at the centre of a corruption case involving a top Nagaland Cricket Association official, Delhi-based coaches and budding players willing to play BCCI tournaments in exchange of money.

In an intriguing modus operandi, according to a Delhi Police investigation, about 11 aspiring players from Delhi paid close to Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore in total to two coaches, who were instructed to deliver the bribe to the Karol Bagh shop that has business links with the Nagaland official. Possibility of several other hawala payments at a Gurugram-based sports shop too are being probed.

7. Seventeen-Year-Old Stabs Teen to Death; Detained

A 17-year-old man was detained by Shanti Nagar police on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing another 17-year-old man multiple times on Tuesday night in New Azad Nagar, Bhiwandi, Thane, Maharashtra.

Police said the accused had just been released from a correction home for his alleged involvement in one murder and an attempted murder case registered with Shanti Nagar police station.

Officers said the incident took place near Nizami Hotel, along Pipeline Road in Shanti Nagar area, around 9.30pm on Tuesday. The accused was allegedly assaulting some women when the victim, Atique Jamil Ansari, a resident of Shanti Nagar, confronted him.

8. Home Alone, Elderly Cancer Patient Killed

A 74-year-old cancer patient who was alone at her Behala residence was allegedly murdered on Thursday morning.

Subhra Ghosh Dastidar was found smothered in her bedroom on the first floor of the two-storey building at Sisirbagan in Kolkata, around 20 minutes from Diamond Harbour Road.

Cops said a few expensive pieces of jewellery and the victim’s mobile phone were missing and suspect robbery to be prime reason behind the murder. A house painter and a carpenter who visited the Ghosh Dastidar residence on Wednesday have emerged as suspects, along with a few others. Police sources said they were using technical evidence to zero in on the accused

9. Youth Held for Stalking Girls, Passing Lewd Remarks at Them

The Lucknow police arrested a youth from Aliganj area on Thursday for allegedly passing lewd remarks at school girls and stalking them. The accused is a college dropout and belongs to well to do family.

Inspector of Aliganj police station, Fareed Ahmad said the accused identified as Shashank Mishra, 22, often loitered around girls’ schools and colleges and passed lewd remarks at them.

He said several girls were troubled with his act for past many days but nobody approached the police to avoid legal formalities.
