1. Two Chandigarh Policemen Suspended for Stalking

In a shocking incident, two policemen of Sector 20 were suspended for attempting to stalk a woman resident of Sector 9 in Chandigarh.

These ASI-level policemen tried to con the woman by accusing her of being involved in a road accident. When she stood her ground, they asked her for her number, saying that they wanted to check her phone’s location at the time of the accident.

She got suspicious of the policemen and complained to DCP Kamaldeep Goyal. The DCP looked into the matter, and found the policemen at fault.

2. US Citizen Arrested For Entering Delhi Airport Using Fake Ticket

A US national was arrested at the Delhi airport on Sunday, 21 July, for allegedly using a fake ticket to enter the terminal area, a senior official said.

Kasi V Malla was arrested around 12.30 am. Security personnel found him roaming suspiciously in the terminal area and trying to leave the Terminal-3 (T3) building, the official said.

The man was stopped and questioned, as exiting the terminal area is not allowed under normal circumstances, he said.

3. 532kg Heroin Haul: Amritsar Trader Who Ordered Consignment Dies in Jail

A 29-year-old Amritsar-based trader, named as one of the main accused in the case involving the ‘biggest-ever’ heroin haul seizure at the Attari integrated check post (ICP) on 29 June, died in judicial custody on Sunday, 21 July.

Gurpinder Singh, who owned Kanishk Enterprises, was among five people booked by the customs (preventive) department after the recovery of 532kg heroin and 52kg mixed narcotics concealed in a consignment of 600 bags of rock salt. He placed the order of salt from Pakistan at the behest of a Jammu and Kashmir resident, Tariq Ahmed Lone, the customs had said.

4. Body of Man Found Hanging in Noida’s Sec 54 Green Belt

The body of an unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in the green belt of Noida’s Sector 54 on 20 July. The police brought it down and sent it for an autopsy.

The body in the green belt was brought to the attention of the police by passersby who saw it hanging from a pipal tree.

“We came to know about the incident in the morning after which a team was rushed to the spot. The body was brought down and sent for an autopsy. We are working on identifying the man who appears to be in his late twenties,” Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, station house officer, Sector 24 police station, said.

5. Auto Driver Assaulted, Robbed of Rs 21,000 by 3 Men

Two men were arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing an auto-rickshaw driver in Kherki Daula in Gurugram.

The police said the suspects forced him into their car after a minor collision and dropped him off in Delhi after driving him around for two hours. They took his phone and forced him to withdraw Rs21,800 cash from two ATMs, said the police.

According to the police, the incident took place on July 18 around 7.5 0pm when the victim, Inamul, who works as a driver at a plywood and timber store in Badhshahpur, was returning to his rented house in Wazirabad village in his auto-rickshaw.

6. Haryana Man Held by Kolkata Police for Blackmailing Women

A 27-year-old painter was arrested from Haryana by Kolkata Police for allegedly blackmailing a woman by opening their fake Facebook profiles.

Police suspect several women have been duped.

They were interrogating the accused, Mahender Kumar of Fatehabad, to know if more people were involved in the racket, said a police officer.

According to a complaint filed with the cyber police by one of the victims, Kumar created her fake Facebook profile, uploaded obscene pictures and blackmailed her.

7. Two Coast Guard Personnel Held with Rs 50 Lakh Cocaine in Pune

Three men, including two personnel of the Indian Coast Guard, were arrested recently with cocaine valued at Rs 50 lakh. Sources said the Coast Guard personnel were allegedly trying to sell the contraband.

Officials of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ratnagiri police received a tip off and conducted a search in the industrial area of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Ratnagiri at 6.30 pm on Saturday. The police spotted three men “loitering suspiciously” at the premises of an abandoned building. The three were detained and a plastic bag with white substance weighing 936 grams was seized from them

8. 35-Year-Old NRI Businessman Found Dead In Delhi's Taj Palace Hotel

A 35-year-old NRI businessman was found dead at the five-star Taj Palace in Chanakyapuri, here, the police said on Sunday, 21 July.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the businessman, identified as Munni Jaitely, an India-born US citizen, didn't respond to his father's phone calls.

"His father called the hotel reception and requested them to check his son's status. The hotel staff tried to connect with Jaitely through the landline, but didn't succeed," Additional DCP, Eish Singhal, told IANS.

"Later, the hotel manager went to the sixth floor room of Jaitely and knocked at the door. When he didn't get any response, the room was opened with the duplicate key. Jaitely was laying unconcious," Singhal said.

9. 19-Year-Old, Allegedly Molested By Neighbour, Kills Self In Rajasthan

A teenaged girl, disturbed with the molestation by a man, allegedly killed herself on Sunday by jumping into a pond in Barmer district, the police said.

The 19-year old girl was allegedly molested and threatened by her neighbour Narpat Singh some time ago, they said.

The police had already registered a case against accused Singh on July 17, they added.

Following the suicide by girl, the police added relevant section for the offence of abetment of suicide in the case and arrested the accused.
