1. Unnao Case: No Murder Charges Against Sengar in CBI Charge Sheet

The CBI charge sheet in the Unnao rape survivor accident case, filed on Friday, 11 October, contains no murder charges against former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associates.

On 28 July, a car carrying the Unnao rape survivor collided with a truck in Raebareli while they were on their way to meet her uncle in a jail, killing her two aunts and critically injuring the survivor and her lawyer, Mahendra Singh. The woman’s family alleged that Sengar and his men were behind the collision.

The CBI, in its FIR, later booked Sengar and nine others namely Manoj Singh Sengar, Vinod Mishra, Hari Pal Singh, Navin Singh, Komal Singh, Arun Singh, Gyanendra Singh, Rinku Singh, Advocate Awadhesh Singh, under IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.

2. Gujarat: Father Kills Baby Daughter in Acid Attack

An eight-month-old baby girl from Chalasana village of Jotana taluka in Mehsana district has died of burn injuries after her father allegedly threw acid on her.

Mehsana district police registered a case of murder against the father, a rape convict in another case who was released from jail just three months ago. Police said he had tried to frame some of his relatives in the crime as they were against his affair with a woman.

The deceased infant has been identified as Manjula. Police said the baby girl had major burn injuries on her throat and that the postmortem report cited ‘shock due to burns’ as the cause of her death. Her mother Sujan Thakor lodged a complaint against her husband Vinuji Thakor, saying he killed their baby daughter by throwing acid on her.

3. Pimpri-Chinchwad Cop Held for Allegedly Raping Russian Woman

The Mumbai Police on Thursday night registered a rape case against a police inspector attached to the Pimpri-Chinchwad police for allegedly raping a Russian national. The complainant has also alleged that the officer was involved in two murders.

Police said they have registered a rape case and will investigate the murder allegations.

Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Pranay Ashok said, “Based on the woman’s statement, an FIR is being registered against the officer, Anil Jadhav.”

The woman had come to India to join the film industry, her lawyer said. Her passport was about to expire when someone asked her to contact the officer.

4. Bihar Man Fined For Not Wearing Helmet Tries To Commit Suicide: Police

A man poured petrol and tried to light himself on fire after a fine was imposed on him for not wearing a helmet under the new Motor Vehicles Act in Bihar's Purnea, the police said on Friday.

The police said Satyam Sinha tried to commit suicide at RNSAV Chowk crossroads by trying to light himself on fire. "Sinha put petrol on himself and was about to ignite the matchstick when he was saved," said Rajesh Kumar, Traffic Inspector, Purnea.

Mr Kumar said the man was found not wearing the helmet while riding his vehicle, so the traffic police fined him accordingly.

"He did not give the fine and started creating a scene. After a while, he put petrol on himself and tried to ignite the matchstick. He was saved and was handed over to the police," the police said.

5. Trio Held for Priest’s Murder; No Political Motive

Three Trinamul workers have been arrested over the murder of a BJP activist earlier this week but police said the killing was the fallout of a drunken brawl with the victim and not politically motivated as the BJP has alleged.

The body of Supriyo Banerjee, who worked as a priest at a temple in Santipur, was recovered from a lake on Thursday, nearly three days after he went missing. “So far, no political motive has been found,” said Ranaghat police chief VRS Ananthnag.

Acting on a complaint by Subrata Banerjee, the victim’s elder brother, Swapan Pramanik, Tarun Mandal and Subrata Dhara — all Trinamul workers in their twenties — were picked up from neighbouring Laxminathpur where Supriyo was a puja organiser.

6. Hyderabad Cop Thrashes Youth Black and Blue for ‘Throwing Gulal at Him’

In an incident of police high-handedness, the sub-inspector (SI) of Atmakur police station in Yadadri district allegedly assaulted a youngster during a Durga idol procession on Wednesday.

As the youngsters were throwing gulal (colour powder) at each other, some of it ended up falling on the SI. Irked by this, the SI and his colleagues, who were posted at the village for bandobust, unleashed violence on the group. In addition to abusing the youngsters, they also allegedly dragged a youth’s mother across the ground when she tried to rescue her son. The Rachakonda Commissioner of Police (CP) has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Atmakur SI K Yadagiri, a few constables and other armed personnel were supervising the bandobust.

7. Suspects in Snatching That Left Journalist Injured Held After Shootout Near Nizamuddin Railway Station

At least 12 rounds of gunfire were exchanged between Special Cell officers and two men near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station early Friday morning. After the arrest of the two men, Anil Ram (26) and Arun Kumar (24), police said they were also involved in robbing an ANI journalist in CR Park last month. On September 22, the woman, Joymala Bagchi, had suffered a jawline fracture after she was pulled out of a moving auto by the accused who attempted to snatch her phone.

Early Friday morning, a police team of South-Western range of the Special Cell received information that Anil will come to South Delhi with his associate to allegedly commit a robbery. “Acting on this information, a trap was laid at Barapullah flyover near Mathura Road around 4 am. After 25 minutes, police found the suspect’s bike coming from the Nizamuddin railway station side. Police signalled them to stop but Anil accelerated his bike and tried to escape. The police team started chasing them and blocked the carriageway from both sides,” an officer said.

8. Gold Worth Rs 37 Lakh Smuggled In Rectums, Seized At Chennai Airport

Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 37 lakhs on the Chennai International Airport from the rectums of a man and a woman who arrived from Sri Lanka on Friday.

The accused were identified as Sivakumar Palaniyandi, 42, and Sagay Mary, 35.

"The personal search of Sivakumar resulted in the recovery of assorted gold jewellery of 94 percent purity, weighing 525 grams and valued at Rs 19.5 lakhs," a press release said.

"That of Sagay Mary resulted in the recovery of assorted gold jewellery of 22 K purity weighing 128 gms which is valued at Rs 4.7 lakh and 320 grams of gold valued at Rs 12.6 lakhs was recovered from the gold paste which was concealed in the rectum," it added.

In total gold weighing 973 gms valued at Rs. 37 lakh was recovered and the same seized under Customs Act 1962.

9. 4 Kids on Way to School Hit by Vehicle, 2 Critical

Four children, aged between 4 and 6 years, were severely injured when they were hit by a vehicle near the Mayur Vihar Extension metro station on Friday morning. They were on their way to the school from Chilla Village in east Delhi when the accident took place. The vehicle is yet to be identified by the police.

The group of children would occasionally walk together to the municipal-run school nearby, and stop at the Noida Link Road-Chilla Road crossing en route.

DCP (east) Jasmeet Singh said that an FIR has been registered in this connection, and efforts are being made to identify the vehicle.

The incident took place around 7pm when Sapna (6), Chandni (6), Kumkum (4) and Anjali (5) were waiting near Chilla Village Crossing at Noida Link Road for the signal to turn red. Initial probe suggests that a vehicle going towards Noida drove on the extreme left lane and hit the children.
