Mumbai woke up to submerged roads and waterlogged tracks, as the city witnessed heavy downpour on the night of Tuesday, 23 July.
Early on Wednesday, eight people were injured after three cars collided with each other due to low visibility caused by the heavy rainfall in the city, reported news agency ANI. Two of them, who worked at a five-star hotel in Juhu area, were admitted to a private hospital, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) spokesperson said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai said “Intense spells of rain likely to occur in the districts of Thane during next four hours.”

Nearly 171 mm rainfall was recorded at IMD’s observatory at Colaba in South Mumbai between 8:30 am on Tuesday and 5:30 am on Wednesday, according to news agency PTI.
The observatory in suburban Santacruz recorded 58 mm downpour in the same period.
“A system of clouds is moving towards Mumbai from the Arabian Sea. The low pressure area that is developing will bring more showers to the Mumbai region in next 48 hours.”IMD official
The IMD has also alerted security forces as well as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and disaster management cells of the respective districts.
Affected Areas
Heavy downpour since midnight caused water-logging in low-lying areas of Sion, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Kurla, Andheri and Sakinaka, slowing down vehicular movement on roads, the BMC official said.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has tweeted a photo collage with items that one must have during a flood situation.
“Suburban train services are running on all four corridors of Central Railway. However, there’s a delay of 10 to 15 minutes on main line between Kurla and Sion, due to water logging in low lying areas of this section.”PRO Central Railways
While some of the buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were diverted, Western Railways took to Twitter to inform that they were running as per schedule.

Many locals have taken to Twitter to share photos and videos of the situation the rain has put the city in.
Sion Station that is situated in the low lying areas of the city seems to be affected the most as of now.
