The country saw a revolution in the laws for crimes against women after the infamous Nirbhaya rape case, but nothing seems to have changed considering the latest reports on multiple gruesome rapes being reported in Haryana.

Haryana, which has always been in the news for crimes against women, hasn’t fared well on the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) data either. With Delhi ranked at one in the category, Haryana ranks sixth for crimes against women with over 1,000 rape cases being reported in 2014-2016.

Jind

The body of the main accused in the tragic case of a 15-year-old Dalit girl being brutally raped, beaten, and tortured in Haryana last week, was recovered from Bhakra canal near Karnal on Wednesday, CNN-News18 reported.

The accused – a student of Class 12 – who was allegedly known to the victim and had even spoken to her on the day of the incident according to police records, was the prime suspect in the case. The victim’s parents too, had reported their suspicions against him to the police, who had later detained his brother and father.

According to Hindustan Times, the 11-year-old girl went missing on 9 January in Jind, Haryana, but her body was found on 12 January. Her body was reportedly sent to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak for postmortem. Head of the Forensics Department Dr SK Dhattarwal told the newspaper that the girl was sexually assaulted by multiple people.

My daughter went for her tuition classes from where she was kidnapped at 4 pm. A lot of atrocities were inflicted upon her. I want strict actions to be taken against the culprits. I want my daughter to get justice and wish no one else’s daughter has to face the same ordeal.

As many as 19 different injuries were reported to have been found on her body, Dr Dattarwal told The Times of India.

He also said that the autopsy had suggested that the victim had suffered several other internal injuries as well, which was possibly due to the fact that the offenders had inserted a foreign object inside her private parts, the report added.

Dattarwal told The Indian Express that from the looks of it, the victim had probably attempted to struggle a lot to escape her sexual offenders. According to his estimate, she had been killed two or three days before her body had been recovered by the authorities.

According to The Indian Express, three of the offenders took turns to rape her, while the fourth drove the car around the city.

The Faridabad police claim to have been instantly alerted by two different people about the woman’s abduction – one was an eyewitness who saw it happen, and the other was the victim’s cousin who was on a call with her at the time, the report added.

The police deployed several teams to track down the woman’s whereabouts, and the security was tightened at the checkpoints. She was finally found near a petrol pump in the Sikri area around 9 pm, The Hindu reported.
