PM, Dikshit and Others Offer Condolences After Karol Bagh Fire

After at least 17 people lost their lives in a fire that broke out in Arpit Palace hotel in New Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Tuesday, 12 February, PM Narendra Modi along with several leaders including Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to condole the loss of lives.

Modi took to Twitter to express condolences.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister, acknowledging the incident, ordered cancellation of four years of AAP government celebrations that were to be held on Tuesday evening, reported ANI.

Former Delhi chief minister and current Delhi Congress President Sheila Dikshit too followed suit, expressing her grief at the tragedy.

Delhi government’s Cabinet minister Satyendar Jain said that magistrate enquiry has been ordered. He added that there are visible violations of building bye laws.

Former MP LJD’s Sharad Yadav tweeted his grief over the tragic incident and wished for early recovery of the injured.

INC spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill and former MP Naveen Jindal too took to Twitter to offer their condolences to the kin of those who died in the incident.

National vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Shyam Jaju expressed condolences after the accident.

Around 60 people were inside the building at the time of the incident. Two men, who had jumped off the building to escape the fire, lost their lives.
