1. Indian-origin Dentist Killed In Sydney, Suspect Ex-boyfriend Dies In Crash
An Indian origin dentist in Sydney who went missing on Sunday, 3 March, was found stabbed to death Tuesday, 5 March’s night, police said.
Police found the body of Dr Preethi Reddy (32), in a suitcase in her car. The body had multiple stab wounds. The New South Wales police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. She worked at Glenbrook Dental Surgery in the Blue Mountains, about 70km west of Sydney.
Police said that Preethi stayed at a hotel on Market Street in Sydney’s CBD on Sunday with her ex-boyfriend, who was killed in a head-on collision with a truck on the New England Highway, south of Tamworth Monday, 4 March’s night.

2. Over 80% Rise In Rape, Molestation Cases In Mumbai Since 2013: Report
The number of rape and molestation cases reported in Mumbai hit an all-time high in 2018, said a Praja Foundation report that recorded these figures over a five-year period.
Between 2013 and 2018, the number of rape cases registered have increased by 83 percent and molestation cases have risen by 95 percent.
While it is difficult to ascertain whether the increase in numbers is due to more people reporting crimes or rising incidence of these crimes, experts say the numbers are indication that women and children are becoming more vulnerable in Mumbai.

3. Swine Flu Toll Claims Three More, Death Toll Rises to 153 in Rajasthan
H1N1 scare continued in Rajasthan, with three deaths being reported by the health department on Wednesday, 6 March.
So far, 153 people have died in the state this year. A health department official said that the deaths were reported from Nagaur, Sikar and Bundi districts. However, there were 49 persons who were tested positive for swine flu on Wednesday.

4. Amritsar Train Tragedy: Four Months On, SIT Yet To Fix Criminal Responsibility
Four-and-a-half months have lapsed since the Amritsar train tragedy, however, the special investigation team (SIT) that was formed to ‘fix criminal responsibility’ for the accident is yet to complete its probe.
Three days after the tragedy, the then Punjab director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora directed the government railway police (GRP) to hold a probe into the incident. Soon after, additional director general of police (ADGP, railways) Iqbal Singh Sahota, was directed to monitor the investigation. He had said the probe will be completed within three months.

5. Seven Killed, Several Injured As Minivan Rams Into TSRTC Bus in Nalgonda, Telangana
At least seven people were killed when a minivan rammed into a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus on Nagarjunasagar Road in Nalgonda district of Telangana on Wednesday, 6 March.
After the accident, the bodies and the injured were seen spread on the road. The injured were seen asking for help.
The district police after knowing about the incident rushed to the spot. When the victims were travelling in Tata Magic Express, one of the tires got punctured and the driver of the van lost control and allegedly end up hitting the TSRTC bus coming from opposite direction.

6. Retired Army Man Shot At In Noida
A retired army official was hospitalised after he was shot at allegedly by two men at a village in Jewar on Wednesday, 6 March, a senior police official said.
Shyam Singh, 60, was targeted by the bike-borne assailants around 7.30am outside his residence in Mangrauli village, said Jewar circle officer Sharad Chand Sharma.
"He was shot at on his head but the bullet seems to have just touched his head and passed. He has been hospitalised and is out of danger," Sharma said.

7. Protest Turns Violent During An Anti-encroachment Drive , Meerut Police Lathicharge Mob
The Meerut police resorted to a lathi-charge after a joint anti-encroachment drive by the Cantonment Board and the local police met with resistance from a mob that later set on fire a religious place and around 50 houses in the slum area. The mob also torched around 10 private vehicles and damaged eight UP Roadways buses at the fodder market on Wednesday.
Smoke engulfed the area as police and members of the mob fought a pitched battle around 6pm. Police said the protesters also snatched a wireless set from a policeman and a premium mobile handset from a Cantonment Board official.

8. Man Held For Posing As Navy Officer To ‘Cheat Women’
The cyber cell of Kolkata Police on Tuesday, 5 March, arrested a man for impersonating a Navy officer in a cheating case.
The accused, a resident of South 24 Parganas, created different accounts on social media to cheat women, according to an investigation officer.
A case was lodged on 4 March, under the Information Technology Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “On and before 25 May 2018, the accused, Rajan Sharma, who was into online trading, used his mobile number 7768837947 to create multiple accounts on various social networking sites and lured women, falsely representing himself as an Indian Navy officer, posting his photos in uniform,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.

9. Two Noida Mall Workers Held for Allegedly Stalking, Sending Inappropriate Messages To Woman
Two employees with a restaurant located in a mall in Sector 25 were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly harassing and stalking a 22-year-old mass communication student by sending her inappropriate messages.
The incident came to light on Tuesday, 5 March, evening, when the student went to the restaurant with some of her friends, located at Noida’s Spice Mall, to confront the suspects.
“I had gone to an eating joint for dinner on the night of 4 March at the Spice Mall. While paying for the meal, one of the employees asked for my phone number saying it was needed for feedback. I gave him a wrong number but he called in front of me to check it and when he could not get through, he asked me for my number again. I gave him the correct number and left,” the woman, a resident of sector 71, said.
