COVID-19: More Than 4,000 Cases in India, Death Toll at 109

The number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 4,000-mark on Monday, 6 April, with over 100 deaths reported across the country.

According to the latest Health Ministry figures, there are a total of 3,666 active cases in the country and 109 deaths so far. As many as 291 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

As many as 693 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, including 490 in the last 12 hours alone. Thirty two deaths reported in the last one day have taken the toll to 109.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases at 690, followed by Tamil Nadu at 571 and Delhi at 503.

The number of infections reported has steadily increased over the past one week, with a significant chunk of the cases linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation held in south Delhi in mid-March.

India is currently under a 21-day lockdown that was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to curb the spread of the virus. The lockdown is expected to come to an end on 14 April.
