#Charcha2020: Emerging Paradoxes For Youth in Polarising Times

The/Nudge Foundation is hosting Charcha 2020 from 14 to 16 May which is a platform to bring together thinkers, researchers, practitioners, enablers, policymakers, communicators, philanthropists and community leaders to address the toughest challenges in a post-COVID world.

Under the ‘Civil Society and Prosperity‘ panel, a session on ‘Paradoxes of the pandemic: Youth leadership in these polarising times’ is scheduled from 11 am to 1 pm. The dicsussion will revolve around the many paradoxes that have seemingly emerged in the current context.

Earlier, a panel discussion on ‘Empowering the Poor’ on Friday, 15 May, deliberated on areas such as ‘Triumph & Tragedy of Indian Agriculture’. The discussion revolved around challenges of the invisible workers and held talks about direct cash benefits- pro poor and pro markets.

While Barun Mitra, Parth Shah, Shruti Rajagopalan, were the key speakers of the discussion, Yatish K Rajawat was the moderator.

Barun Mitra, founder of The Liberty Institute said that coronavirus has unlocked the mysteries of poverty because “what it has shown is that what happens when you suddenly switch off the engines that run the economy.”

A session on Thursday, 14 May, titled as ‘IDR Panel - Strengthening the influence of Civil Society included speakers such as Arun Maira, former member of the planning commission; Vijay Mahajan, CEO of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Vidya Shah, founder of EdelGive Foundation.

The speakers deliberated upon the pathways that India's social sector can explore to reframe the power equation between samaaj, sarkaar, and bazaar (civil society, government, and the market).

“The purpose of civil society is to enable people without power in society to eat at the same table as the people who have power,” Arun Maira said.
