On Tuesday, a student allegedly attempted self-immolation in front of the CBSE's regional office in Bhubaneswar, protesting alleged discrepancies in the Class XII results published by the Board.

The student, who has been detained by the police before he could light the match stick, said he resorted to this drastic step due to the alleged discrepancies in the CBSE Class XII results, and "inordinate delay" in resolving the issue by authorities.

The students' wing of the Congress had organised a protest over the issue and had tried to rally near the chief minister’s residence but were detained by police.

We will agitate till the students get justice.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also written letters to Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on the issue.

Though the student poured kerosene on his body, an alert police personnel and some parents foiled the bid. He escaped unhurt, the police said. The boy, who scored a 58 per cent, said he had expected higher marks. Meanwhile, Odisha Parents' Association resumed its agitation over the CBSE Class XII results fiasco after the deadline issued to the CBSE authorities for resolving the issue ended here on Tuesday. The parents have been agitating since 29 May.
