A car bearing flags and stickers of the Bharatiya Janata Party was set ablaze by a group of irate students from the Banaras Hindu University, after the car rammed into two students, crushing them, on Saturday, 15 June.
The two students have been admitted at BHU’s trauma centre and are critical, according to reports.
According to Navbharat Times, the accident took place around 2:30 pm in the afternoon, when the speeding SUV, presumably a local BJP leader’s, hit the two students who were on a motorbike. As soon as students from the university were informed of the incident, they reached the spot and created a ruckus, setting the car ablaze.
Speaking to the daily, Lanka SHO Bharat Bhushan said that the car reportedly belonged to local BJP leader Ranbir Singh. Bhushan’s team was reportedly informed of the incident by a passer-by, following which they arrived on scene to nab the driver, who was attempting to escape.
According to the report, no complaint or FIR has been filed in the matter. Meanwhile, a team from the University’s proctorial board reportedly visited the trauma centre to take stock of the students’ condition.
