In a major political development, the Shiv Sena has decided to fly solo in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, ruling out alliance with its long-term ally BJP. Shiv Sena on Tuesday, 23 January, passed a resolution moved by MP Sanjay Raut after it was unanimously supported by all party leaders.

Aditya Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray and Yuva Sena chief, has been elevated to the Shiv Sena national executive committee as a leader.

In a meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday, Aditya was elevated to the core committee as an official Shiv Sena ‘leader’. The meeting was held in the backdrop of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s birth anniversary.

In the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray was unanimously re-elected as the party chief as he made important political announcements in the meet while criticising the Modi government.

Aditya Thackeray’s promotion to a Shiv Sena leader makes him the youngest ever, at 27.

Following his appointment, Thackeray told The Quint that it is something he is really happy about, but at the same time, it’s a really huge responsibility.

It’s a great honour to be a leader in the party. I’ll keep doing what i’m already doing, i would like to ask for everyone’s blessings.

Upon leaving Yuva Sena, he said that it is and will always be his work to serve the Yuva Sena and the people within the Yuva Sena are also ready for the change.

When questioned about Shiv Sena contesting the 2019 assembly elections solo, Aditya said that the party won't only fight solo, they will win the elections by themselves.

The resolutions are already there in front of everyone. Hence, I won’t talk about that.

About the sudden change in Shiv Sena's wish to contest elections without Narendra Modi, contrary to the 2017 NDA meeting held in Delhi, Aditya refused to answer and further asserted that he is there to gather people's blessings.

Aditya ended the conversation by saying that the Shiv Sena will win the 2019 assembly elections.
